I just destroyed a Relic :(
Low and behold, the very VERY first video card i ever purchased (well not myself but i had demanded getting a newer computer with something worthwhile in it) ended up making it's rounds back to me.... yes indeed the very first 3D accelerated card i EVER had in my hands and used.
The Creative made : Voodoo Banshee 16mb AGP
In my haste to throw together a working computer, while not exactly what i had back then, but close, and fully upgraded, i decided to fiddle around with the card.
The card was aged, the heatsink was a little on the "looking toasted" side.... card worked good, but ran much to warm (the last user reported corrupted 3D stuff occasionally)..
Anyways got myself a replacement heatsink which would be a hell of alot better.
To get the heatsink off the card, figured i'd pull the "freezer" trick.... unfortuneatly it didn't go to well.
the adheasive thermal crap on the board wasn't applied very well, but it was damn good..... so good it litterly tore up chunks of the chip itself...
i kinda slumpped back in my chair and uttered a few words in my own head.
I've since decided to try and "peice" back together the chip, and then clean it up the best i can... maybe even get it framed lol. Either way it's gonna stay in my hands.
I need to find a card to stick in this machine screaming for a 3dfx card. Anyone got a Voodoo 3 3000 agp (with the stock bigass aluminum heatsink on it)
May be the first item i ever buy from ebay.

lowfat
i ain't touching those voodoo 2's..... they've been saturated with oil (or did you have those replaced.... i can't remember what you ended up doing with it all..)
either way, no not interested in the voodoo 2's
went on ebay.. bought a sealed voodoo 3 3000 agp 16mb card for $9.25 + ($15 dollars for shipping )
it won't be the exact same card that i had back in the day that replaced that banshee... i miss that voodoo, fastest voodoo 3 3000 on the planet according to 3dmark01se (i couldn't find a overclocker that went beyond 220mhz at the time, i always had it maxed out, never got hot hot...)
I think i'm going to see if i can find a PowerVR Kyro II (Hercules 4500).... THAT will be a true relic as well.... see what will happen if i can find a board that'll accept it, agp 2x however supported the 4x/8x slots, just some motherboards kept detecting it as a agp 2x and thought it wasn't a compliant card even though it did indeed support the voltages of the higher spec.

Shame same thing happened with my first card, the Asus V3800 Magic, except it was stolen. Together with my whole rig at the time.

it's a relic because powervr hasn't released any new chip designs to any fab that are add in cards.
and because it's the most unique card to date still.
Seriously, i betcha it would still beat the pants off even the 9800pro 128mb series cards in some specific tests with 1/100th the power that the 9800pro has.
gotta love TBR's.... TRUE TBRs
everyone with a iphone is walking around with a TBR PowerVR tech in hand.

I had a much needed cleaning frenzy the other day and threw a bunch of electronics stuff away, including some fully working AGP graphics cards(Riva 128, Riva TNT, Kyro 2, R9800SE). Also a socket A mobo with CPU and a 939 mobo. I hesitated but I was never going to use them anyway and didn't know anyone that would either. I've been saving so much stuff over the years that I still have parts for a secondary system that I ought to get up and running, if just to get rid of in a more proper fashion.
