Chaos already tried that kind of volts, not for you lol.

1.5V for 45-nm C2D is still okay (i'm not recommending anyone using this high Vcore, lol), but i've never tried it with 45-nm C2Q yet.

i used to use 1.7V and i got a degradation in the chip quality quite fast, once the chip is degraded one thing that's easy to notice, the chip will require higher and higher vcore. however, it seems to be recovered after using some of very low volts for a few weeks or so, lol.

if you could go back to around Jan-Feb when the 45-nm C2D's were somewhat available,
then you will probably see so many have used a very high Vcore on the chips, and that because the CPU's core temp seems still okay
(but not all of those CPUs have a very low core temps, just some of them), and people just liked the low core temp reading and wanted to push even harder and get a higher and higher overclocked.

i wonder how loud this drive would be?
wouldn't mind a couple for audio work, but if it's too loud then i'm probably better off with lower speed, quieter drives

i have 2x75 & 1x150 in my comp & they make the same noise as my wifes with her 2x 300 1x120 7200 rpm hd. sometimes i think they are quieter than hers.
fyi my comp is on top of my desk. it is meant to be quiet. those drives fit the bill.

Accoustics wise if your using an air cooled rig already with some good RPM fans you wont really notice it, a couple reviews have said the VelociRaptor is quieter than the previous Raptors, and it has a distinctly different sound. Could be the use of 2.5" over 3.5" drive.

what i find interesting is that all of my 500gb Seagate 7200.11's perform far better then what they list for the performance marks on thier 7200.11's

Cmon, i wanna see someone spit up 625+MB/s sustain reads and sub 7.5ms random seek times

I would get it if I could afford it. The WD VelociRaptor sure looks like a better choice than any other SSD harddrives on the market today, mostly because of the price.

The WD VelociRaptor seems to be a good choice for gamers, indeed! I wonder if the sound is more acceptable than any of the 10k Raptors which have been released so far..?

A big minus of the poor capacity, though. 300GB is not enough for a harddrive these days. Not very impressive.

Very happy w/ the WD6400AAKS though it's a bitch to copy a HD under Vista x64. Norton Ghost v14 w/ latest updates is the only thing that worked for me.

I really really don't mind the capacity issue

300GB is more than enough in my opinion for enthusiasts who know what they're doing

Personally, I only use like 50gb off my 160gb raptor (Vista x64 Ultimate + apps + essential games like STEAM = 20gb)

The rest goes elsewhere... It's much better to seperate your data (well I find anyways)


when I do end up buying the velociraptor, it'll be cut into 2 (200gb Vista x64, 100gb uBuntu)
