Modded DVP5982 Firmware

Does anyone have the Philips DVP5982 DVD player? If so, have you ever used this modded firmware?

"DVP5982_37_byRyan_v0.3b_beta"

It's supposed to increase filename characters amongst other things...

I'm cautious about using it until I get some confirmations that it works.

What exactly would be the change log for this modded firmware?

Depending on who was doing the tweaking to it, I would probably not recommend using modded firmware for stuff if one of the following arent true.

1) You have disposable income
2) The mod was done by a reputable person who is very skilled in what he does
3) You yourself know how to properly upgrade the firmware, and possibly save the hardware if something goes amiss
4) You are clinically Insane

If you cant confidently agree to any of the above statements then I would STRONGLY advise you dont use that firmware. But I would be interested in seeing where this firmware is from, and its changelog

PS- Edited your title so it doesnt look so bad, since "hacked" is a touchy subject especially when dealing with legitimate sites and forum posts. | So Hacked will now be "Modded" for PR sake

Yes, you are right.

1)I don't have that much disposable income
2)I don't really have any info on who modded it or where it's from
3)I know how to upgrade, but I'm not sure I could recover it if its bricked
4)Sometimes you have to be a little insane if you want your hardware to do what you want it to do.

I wish I knew more about this firmware, but I have no info on it. I just got it from a link that someone posted on another forum, and that link just went to a download site with no info attached to it either.

This is why I posted the question here...

All I know is it fixes the issue of only having 7 usable characters for files viewed through the USB port (which is why I want it).

Yeah, I would avoid that firmware then, unless other reputable users have tried the file and it works

I've installed the hacked firmware by Ryan. However, the purpose for me using it was to HOPEFULLY get long file name support for USB, and it didn't accomplish that. So I rolled it back.
