Yeah, I understand - bummer though...

I've been over two years (!!!) planning, waiting, and watching the trends in the hardware over that time - and I still have two major components to go. Patience is a virtue, and practicing it (the really hard part...) builds good character.

This coming year you should see Quad cores become mainstream and cheaper (the Dual cores will drop in price too), hard drives getting bigger for the same money, 64bit software for Windows (and drivers!) becoming more widespread and stable especially for the new hardware, and (best of all) price drops on some of the other components (noticed the Power Supplies over the past year - they're getting better and dropping in price too) you'll likely want to use to build your system - all in your favor Robert!

Your new high-speed internet connection will feel great - makes a Huge difference in your feeling of freedom moving across the internet - you're definitely going to love that!

Damn if theres one thing that brings a tear to my eye, its seeing geeks not get new rigs because of extraneous circumstances.

Sorry to hear that man, I hope your luck turns around for you!
