Need help installing a video card.
My brother dropped off a weird looking video card at my house, and I was hoping to use it, or at least find out how much memory it has. It is made by PNY technologies as I can see by the sticker..But anyway. I stick it into my motherboard (it is a regular PCI video card) and I turn on my pc and the screen is black. I was thinking that usually the video card works even if the driver isnt installed but this one doesnt..
I am using windows xp. Running off of a 1.3 Ghz amd processor. with 512mb of ram. And am currently using 32mb of integrated graphics from the mobo..So getting this card to work would definetly be an upgrade assuming it is probably around 64mb-128mb. I do not know what kind of card it is so ill try to describe it. the main board itself is purple, and where the plug goes for the monitor it also has a '' TV/OUT'' port thing. It has a really thin fan on the front. And on the back it has a sticker that says ''PNY Technologies, Inc. PNY ASSY.NO GF4MX420PCI Made in China Void if removed <--lol 70AT402002810 VCG4MX42PPB'' So first of all I would like to know why it doesnt display anything when it is in. Because that seems a bit strange. I looked inside at the card when the pc was on, and the fan is moving. So it is getting power. I just dont know what is wrong. |

That's and older Geoforce MX4 card. It should work just fine give you BIOS and stuff... Make sure that it's properly installed on the PCI slot and the VGA cable is secured. What PSU the system in question has?

Yeah I went to disable the integrated graphics and then I shut off the pc, put in the card, and then turned on the pc and the same thing happened. I even kept the card in and shut off the pc, plugged the VGA cable thing or what ever into the integrated one, started up windows, went to device manager, and it didnt even show up on the list. Is that normal?.. I should probably have installed the drivers for it when I did that..but I figured it was broken.
_ Edit. when you ask about my PSU you mean my power supply? Last edited by power_drain; Apr 9, 2008 at 07:23 PM. |
