Kingston Hyper X 1066 memory only showing 800? Any ideas?

I just installed some new hardware. It's fast, but I am pissed as my mobo won't let me get the 1066 memory it said it supported. It only goes to 800 at 5-5-5-15 timings.

Specs.

MB GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 AM2+
MEM 1Gx4|KST KHX8500D2K4/4G 4GB KIT 1066MHZ DDR2-NON-ECC CL5 DIMM
CPU AMD|A64 X2 6400 3.2G AM2
(2) HIS 3870's running Crossfire
WD Raptor and Maxtor 300gb hd
700 Thermaltake Toughpower

Any help would be appreciated.

Thx,
Shammy

you will need to overclock a bit to get 1066.... being and AMD platform I couldnt tell you the exact settings. But I am sure someone could help you out

Yeah the mobo doesn't even give you the option of auto tuning to 1066. I with I knew the timings and voltages to unlock it.

memory timings and vdimm are not the problem.
for DDR2-1066, a standard timings setting is 5-5-5-15, vdimm requirement will be between 2.0V-2.2V depending on your board and memory module itself, some are required less/more voltage than the others.

what are you looking for is a memory divider setting in your BIOS setup program, which may or may not be already exist on your board's BIOS/CMOS menu setting.

Yeah I got thr timings set in the bios, I have the voltage set also. It just won't let me go past 800mhz in the mobo. This mobo said it supported 1066 mhz ddr2.

i don't know man. i haven't a clue about your board and its chipset.

now about the supported DDR2-1066MHz.... as far as my experience go, there are 2 kinds of support.
one is, you get a DDR2-1066 on your first system boots (with a standard vdimm already given to the DIMMs), this when you installed DDR2-1066 (with a SPD data for running DDR2-1066) onto a board that's said to support DDR2-1066. as long as DDR2-1066 is in use, you can manual enter memory timings and vdimm, as you preferred settings, the system will boot and config to use DDR2-1066 on every system boots and the system/CPU won't need to be overclocked to run DDR2-1066, you also don't have to set the memory clock/speed or divider/ratio, these settings can be left at Auto.
this may not be 100 percent true on every boards/memory modules.

another one is, a support by overclocking... this one is like, the system chipset/memory controller is tune and may provide a divider to run DDR2-1066 without problem.
this one may or may not have exactly same support as the above.

Yeah I am at a loss. Some people are saying you can only get 1066 if you have a Phenom processor? IDK

yeah i don't know about that either. wait for some people who uses the same type of motherboard platform and CPU with you to get involved here and help.

I believe that's true.
At least every Manual I have read from Asus states:

"DDR2 1066 is supported by some of the AM2+ CPU's only.
Refer to ASUSTeK Computer for the supported CPU models and the memory Qualified Vendors Lists"

Yeah I got an AM2 processor. Damn. Said 1066 on the mobo box and on the memory. Well my machine is uber fast right now. I finished Crysis on very high settings in 2 days without a hiccup after some OC'ing. The only reason I didn'r get a Phenom is on New Egg everyone said this board wouldn't work with one without a bios revision. I plan on upgrading to one if I can ever get my heatsink off this bitch. I mean I had to push down with all my weight to get it to snap in. I weight 210 6'2" lol.

Thanks for the input.

This is the reply I recieved from Kingston...

Hello Mark,

Please check your processors documentation as it must be capable of also supporting 1066MHz memory. Here are the timings for the memory. If these don't work then sorry to say it's not compatible with your system even though you may have a processor that supports 1066MHz memory.

SPD Loads 800MHz
5 Cas Latency (CL)
5 Ras to Cas Delay or Row to Column Delay (tRCD)
5 Row Precharge Delay or Ras Precharge Delay (trp or tRCP)
15 Row Active Delay or Ras Active to Precharge Delay or Time to Ready (tra, trd or tRAS)
1 Command Rate (CMD) Please note not all bios will have this setting
1.8 Voltage

Module Max 1066MHz
5 Cas Latency (CL)
5 Ras to Cas Delay or Row to Column Delay (tRCD)
5 Row Precharge Delay or Ras Precharge Delay (trp or tRCP)
15 Row Active Delay or Ras Active to Precharge Delay or Time to Ready (tra, trd or tRAS)
1 Command Rate (CMD) Please note not all bios will have this setting
2.2 Voltage

SPD Loads are the default timings and how the module will run when it is simply plugged in the motherboard and turned on.
Module Max is the maximum settings the module can be overclocked to via BIOS settings.

Any other setting not listed here must be left to their default positions. If this memory does not run properly after setting the timings, please return the memory to the place of purchase within their return policy for a refund as they may not be compatible with your motherboard. You may also wish to obtain our conventional DDR memory not geared for overclocking by using our online memory configurator at:

Standard Memory: 0 MB (Removable)

Maximum Memory: 8 GB with current Kingston modules
16 GB with release of 4GB modules

Expansion: 4 Sockets

CPU & ChipSet: AMD Athlon 64 (AM2) AMD 790FX
AMD Athlon 64 FX (AM2) AMD 790FX
AMD Athlon 64 X2 (AM2) AMD 790FX
AMD Sempron (AM2) AMD 790FX
AMD Phenom FX (AM2+) AMD 790FX
AMD Phenom (AM2+) AMD 790FX

Bus Architecture: PCI; PCI Express; USB
Mfgr's System P/N's: N/A
Comments DDR2-1066 is supported by AM2+ CPUs only.
At 1066MHz, this system supports up to two single rank modules ONLY.

MODULES MUST BE ORDERED AND INSTALLED IN PAIRS for Dual Channel mode. Kingston offers "K2" Kit part numbers for Dual Channel mode.

AMD Sempron processors support DDR2-533 and DDR2-667 memory only. Faster speeds are not supported.

This system supports both ECC and non-ECC memory. Mixing ECC and non-ECC modules is not recommended.

If 4GB is installed, the recognized memory may be reduced to 3.5GB or less (depending on system configuration and memory allocation).

Maximum configurations require a 64-bit operating system.
