Plaese tell me what you think of my new pc
Hi I am building a new pc and i need some thoughts for my configuration.
I already have:
ASUS P5E3
ASUS EAH2400PRO
just ordered Kingstone DDR3 1GB 1066Mhz
and thinking of getting Intel Core2Duo E6550.
Is this a good configuration for games?
Thank You.

not exactly.....
you paired one of the most powerful boards on the planet with an HD 2400PRO, 1GB of snail paced RAM and the lowest end Conroe on the market?
i would understand if those were stepping stone components, meaning you would upgrade as soon as the new affordable stuff comes out.
but as of right now, that system doesnt meet the standards of ANY high end gaming.
the 2400 card probably wont be able to play any of the latest games even on minimum settings.
DDR3 1066 is a heck of alot slower than DDR2, thats why people should only get DDR3 1600 or just stick with DDR2. it probably wouldn't be able to handle XP loading very well let alone some kind of game like crysis or COD4
the e6550 is powerful, somewhat...... but every other component you have chosen is going to bring it down.
the system board you have right now is ranked right around 3rd place in terms of performance of the worlds most powerful boards....... but they cost over $300
good DDR3 is going to set you back $400-500, a good quad core will set you back $280, a good GPU will set you back $279-390
if you cant afford this price tag then dont continue anymore, it will be a very expensive waste of your money..
if you give me your price range, i can put together a better performing list for your price.

Moved to Hardware forums!
I think kris23's recommendation for parts would suit your need nicely

I am planing on upgrading after a while to +1GB (total 2GB), and waiting for a better graphic that fully supports DX10.

uhh..... there are tons of cards that have full DX10 support.
but if you are talking DX10.1 then thats a whole other story
all ATi 3000 series cards support DX10.1 and shader model 4.1 even though theyre a joke at higher ends......
its really pointless upgrading at this time, you are buying at the worst time possible, you have no money and cant buy the recommended hardware
1 gig sticks arent even the real things to buy, in a few months, the performance DDR3 will all be 2 gig sticks
the X48 motherboards are so close to release, they have a modified memory controller which enhances throughput and latencies further, they are worth it if you are truly taking DDR3 seriously.
the best route to go wouldve been to buy the system i listed up on top, buy some DDR3 1800-2000mhz when the time is right and go to nehalem straight after.
but seeing as how you bought the components already, you sealed your path. i already answered your question, you cant game with your current setup, you will need at least an 8800GT or HD 3850

Incorrect.
X48 is Identical to X38 in every way/shape/form. It is only a speed binned X38, (IE- Has better electrical properties, that showed it could OC better, or have a little better performance) They did not retool the X38 at all, they just slapped a new tag on it to delineate between them, and add 20$ per Chip.
However yes, it OCs a bit better, but at clock for clock its identical to X38.

Is it worth considering an X48 then or is it better to wait for Nehalem based mobo next fall?

yes but the memory controller is still faster no matter how you look at it
if you look at benches from the two boards you will see that the memory is a decent bit faster.

The memory controller is the Northbridge.... it is no faster than X38 at the same clock, it "theoretically" will overclock further than the x38, but thats not guaranteed, it also allowed intel to Officially support 1600mhz FSB.

yea.... i know that the X48 move is minimal,
and i do know the northbridge is the memory controller, there are some gains from the whole x48 deal.
id just feel better going with the most recent chipset really.....

A system with 2gb+ DDR2 and a HD3850/HD3870 or 8800GT would be more approperiate...
To keep costs low though, the e6550 is a good performing chip..... inline with the midrange...
