DVD drive finds some dvd's, and some not.

my dvddrive cant find the mobo cd (drivers for internet and such) i put in it, so im pretty much screwed. i tried another cd, and it can find it (a cd for my modem with manual and stuff. it plays it with autoplay), but the windows cd, which had other drivers on it, and the mobo cd wont get detected. nothing, no autoplay, cant open it when i got through 'My Computer' and or explorer and stuff... like i havent put any cd in.
anybody know what might be up?
dvd drive has to work.. i installed windows with it yesterday

nothing wrongwith the dvd neither.. they work in other computers..

This is not uncommon.
Try to go to the mfg site for the drive and see if there is a firmware update for it.
All of the drivers can be downloaded from the net if you cannot get the drive to read the media.

well... thats the problem. I cant get internet to work. Its a fresh windows install, and i think i have to install ethernet drivers and stuff to get internet to work first from that mobo dvd. but thats the one it wont read.

or am i missing something with the internet.. that never really was/is my best section when it comes to pc stuff...

as far as i got internet to work is:
network cable is unplugged, but this was while it was plugged just fine.

I am so used to having a couple PC's laying around that I take this type of problem for granted. I really didn't think I was though because you said that the disk works in other systems so I assumed that you had access to the internet. Especially since you post this question on the internet.
Believe me , I feel for ya and understand your troubles. If you cannot get your drive to read the disk and you have no other means of getting on the internet to download drivers then the easiest thing to do is buy another optical drive. The odds of two different model drives not reading a disk is pretty slim.
You can also use a flash drive or external HDD to download all your drivers to from another system from the net. You can also transfer the drivers off of the disk in question from one of the systems that read it to the external storage.

Are you just messing with me on this one? J/K

after a couple more tries of putting the disk in the drive, restarting the pc and trying again it finally was able to find the cd.
after getting internet to work, installing the rest of the drivers of the internet was a breeze.
the pc is now up and running.
thanks for all the help and patience

i was posting from an old laptop i had lying around

I know it's late now, but there are ways of dealing with no net access after a fresh install.

1. Use an old NIC. You can get a SMC 1211TX PCI card very cheap. I have one in my P3 and the Win2000 installer recognized it. So in Win200x/XP you should be able to put in the card and get online so you can get other drivers.

2. A Linux live CD.

3. download and have all needed drivers ready on your hard drive(s) before you install Windows, include copy any needed drivers from the CD/DVD over to the hard drive, so that it's ready beforehand.
