Weird Computer

I just installed a new motherboard and a GFX card, formatted my HD, installed MB drivers, GFX drivers, everything, and something isn't working fine because I'm getting about 50 (and unstable) FPS on Counter-Strike. Not Source, just normal CS, and as it's the only game I keep on playing on a regular basis, and I've got a pretty decent computer, I'd LOVE to be able to play normally

Here are the MB/GFX Card specs:
ASRock PRVM980
Club3D 6800GT PCI-Express

The rest is the same I've always had (P4 3.2, 1GB Kingston DDR ram), and everything is working fine except for the fps problem.

Vertical-Sync is turned off, GFX settings are on the lowest quality level, HZ's are fine, etc.

I've used the drivers that came on the CD, the ones at Nvidia.com and the newer ones at Guru3D.com and all of them are working the same. Temperatures of everything are fine too (< 55º C).

I've done this hundreds of times and never had a problem until now.

Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean your mobo is P4VM890 not PRVM980? it would seem you hit R instead of 4, and got the last numbers mixed up....However, what videocard were you using before? And what are your new bios settings.

With the new system and video card, are you trying to use higher resolutions and settings for the game than what you were using with the older video card/system? Be sure to duplicate your previous settings to get a good apples-to-apples comparison.

Additionally, I found that by doubling system RAM to 2GB made a world of difference in performance. That would be my first suggestion to try.

Secondly, if the motherboard is new "off the shelf" there's likely a newer BIOS and even motherboard drivers available. Check the website for any updates.

Good luck!

@dyre; he said all his gfx settings are turned down, and even with only 1G of RAM it should still run like a dream on that rig. (CS:S never drops below 65fps on my machine)
Did you make sure to properly remove all traces of the previous drivers when you tried the newer ones out?? You might also want to try and use an older rev of the gfx and/or chipset driver and see if that helps any.
another thing to try is to run DriverAgent which will tell you of any major problems with your drivers (obviously).

RE: DriverAgent -- I HATE, absolutely DESPISE, any online scan operation that advertises that it's TOTALLY FREE but then, after doing the scan, if you want any download you have to PAY for it.

"Scumbags" is the name that comes to mind.

As to the OP: I think that motherboard has a VIA Chipset. I hate VIA about as much as I hate "Scumbags" that adverstise products for free but then ask for money if you want to get anything.
