Once you get things balanced weight wise.. yes. While I like the G7, and the MX1000, the G5 just 'feels' better, and it's more responsive (thanks to it being a wired mouse).
One thing I've noticed is that I've actually lightened the G5 since I got it a few months back. I originally had (and still have somewhere) the MX700, which is a wireless mouse, and I got used to the weight of it. So when I got the G5 I pretty much loaded it up to about the same weight. But lately the weight has been bothering me, and I've since lightened it up a bit.

i've used the G7 previously, but it has been giving me problems, which was why i switched the the G5 instead...
and since i'm pretty used to the weight of the G7, my weights is at 24.8g

Did you get the newer blue version 2 or the older copper version 1?
I really want that second thumb button. If Newegg would ever get the version 2 I will be getting it.

Actually, there were 3 version 1s, but I'm being picky here.
Robert, I found that, at least for me, the best layout was to have 1 x 4.7g in each corner, and 2 x 1.7g in the center-middle (leaving the 2 side-middle holes empty). That would give you 22.6g total. At least, that's what I originally had. As I mentioned I've backed off of the weights to having 1 x 1.7g in each corner, so it's now 6.8g total. It's just enough weight to keep it from flying all over the place, but heavy enough to realize it's there.

I use a combination of maxed out weight in the mouse and this pad and mouse skates. It works really well in combination with medium acceleration and 50% pointer speed and 2000, 1750, 1500, 1400, 1200dpi with report rate at 1000. I haven't found one game I can't be competitive in with this combination.

Nice. I didn't realize Hyperglide made specific replacement pads.
And that's a nice glass mouse pad too. Speaking of which, that's one thing I need to find: a smooth pad.

The Corpad is technically not a smooth pad. There is a raised tight knit honeycomb design on the main surface and the back is completely smooth as glass. It doesn't eat mouse feet like sandpaper compared to most other textured pads and after almost two years of more than average use is still like new. It sits on a thin rubber unattached mat that keeps it tight to the desk and can easily be flipped for a perfectly smooth surface. Personally I do not like it that smooth but it works good if you turn the pointer speed way down and are just navigating programs and the net so that the gaming surface is preserved.
WoW I sound like a total Corepad fanboy.

Well I have one with one button thats ok lol I have ms engonmic keyboard 4000 that has left and right button on lol. So I really don't need that second forward button on the mouse beside it's all I can afford since I'm very broke right now lol Ya I like this mouse alot it's nice and copper red I think. I don't have that bule one just the red one.

It is not about having an extra forward button for me. It is about having another mappable thumb button for gaming.
I really like this mouse, it is by far the best I have ever owned. You can get the v2 G5's retail but who wants to spend 70.00 on a mouse. Once Newegg gets rid of there v1's then the v2's should be about the same price as there current stock.

i using the blue one, i'm not sure if the previous g5 versions have a smooth or rough top surface, but i rather the rough surface of the blue one as i have got sweaty palms, wreck havoc with my G7 as some of the paint layer got "eaten" away by my perspiration...

Newegg finally got the version 2 blue g5's in and I received mine yesterday. I love these mice. Now I have a version 1 on my server and this one.
I do have the standard sensitivity bug that the version one used to have and now this has it with the 4.0.121 drivers. Adjustment of the sensitivity within the desktop works fine but once a game is detected then the drivers revert to the default DPI settings or just act screwy depending on the game. If I turn off game detection then sensitivity works but unless I have uberoptions installed then I can't map the extra buttons.
