a7v333 will not boot

i just recieved an a7v333 from someone because it has a problem: it won't start up. at all.

the light signifying power is lit, but when i press the power switch, absolutely nothing happens. no fans move, no beeps, no voiced issues from the onboard "troubleshooter", the light doesn't turn off or flicker... absolutely nothing.

i've spent the last 12 hours searching the internet for any possible fixes, and any possible ways to tell the mobo to start (becuase, i believe, the leads to the power switch might be damaged).

if anyone could help, and suggest any ideas, even off-the-wall ones, it would be appreciated

Throw the mobo and when it bounces off-the-wall, it should work

My guess is the pins starting the computer aren't working right... <reads rest of Ryoko's post> Yep, I agree, probably that. You are using a working PSU, I'm assuming (to check independant of a mobo, short the trigger to the ground, plenty of links w. pics if you want em), so... hmm... Have you tried checking to make sure that the power connectors are in the right place? e.g. shorting all of the pins in that HDD-led reset powerbutton area? Also, are you sure you're using a good power switch (I'm really at a loss here )? Before trying that last thing, short the power leads with a paperclip or something... hmm... If this board can't be RMAed, I have several last ditch ideas to try, but they would probably invalidate the warranty...

i shorted the pins marked "pwr" on the mobo with a screwdriver. i also shorted all of the other pins on the panel connector. i even followed the traces to the power switch all the way to the psu connector, and tried shorting at every exposed area.

no warranty to worry about

MAKE SURE YOU RAM/CPU IS GOOD (IN ANOTHER BOARD)

CHECK YOUR BIOS CLEAR JUMPER

RESEAT YOU VIDEO CARD

MAKE SURE THE MOBO IS NOT SORTED AGENST THEW CASE (IT HAPENS MORE THAN YOU THINK ESPECALLY IF YOU USEING THE METAL STANDOFFS TIGHNENING THE SCREWS TO MUCH WILL COUSE SOME PROBLEMS TOO)

COULD BE THE BIOS IS FRIED (MY GUESS) BUT THERE IS EASY WAYS TO FIX THAT

all other components were tested and good before and after contact with the a7v333. no computer components were harmed in the testing of this mobo

checked, doublechecked, and checked again

that wouldn't cause the mobo to not provide power to the cpu fan, but i reseated it 3-5 times anyway.

the mobo was not mounted in a case, it was placed on an antistatic bag on wood.

could be, but again, the cpu fan should at least get power.

there's no question it is, i just want to find and bypass the problem

Well, ok, two ideas, then I'm going to get back to my work - midterms are a b1tch... anyway, first off, short EVERYTHING on the board while it isn't plugged in. All of the capacitors, all of the transistors, anything you can get your hands on. There just might be some whack charge in there causing problems. If that doens't work, force the PSU on by using the pin-trick, but with a thin 1-layer-thick piece of aluminum foil, then plug the ATX cable into the mobo jumpered to run like that, and see if things start lighting up. Disclaimer: I haven't slept in the past 48 hours, so these ideas are likely to suck

i didnt read the whole thread so i dont know if someone has already said this... but i would (if i REALLY wanted it fixed) put it in the case i KNOW works and try it there. if it boots, its probably a bad power switch

i shorted it while there was power, the light went out, and nothing else... it went 4 days without power before i got it, so i doubt it still has a charge... and about the pin trick, i haven't found anything on that.

Read the ATX spec, then short the PS_ON# to COM/GND, and you will trigger the PSU without needing a motherboard/power switch... then my idea was to do that, force the PSU on, then plug the PSU into the motherboard while it's being forced to run, and then hopefully the motherboard will get juice and work.
