ati vs nvidia (vista support)

well i really like ati but at the minute i have to say im a bit desappointed,nvdia released loads od differents sets of drivers in the past few weeks some of them are even whql!! there are so many issues with ati cards running over vista that i could spend the day talking about it,i dont know i might just get a nvidia directx 10 card and get a conroe processor and move away from ati and amd.things are going downhill for them and they are going to have a tough year.

not too sure what ATI has as far as problems go. but know that both companies have their own issues as far as driver support goes.

As for NVIDIA's problem, one major thing that they are lacking in is SLI support for 6 and 7 series cards. 8 series cards do support SLI if you have the 100.64 beta drivers installed. Also, NVIDIA currently has no/little support for dual display set ups on the Vista OS. overclocking abilities are slim to nil as well. NTUNE isn't supported by vista yet. These are just some of the common issues in Vista that I have come across since the release of the OS. I'm sure though, that as time progresses, both NVIDIA and ATI will have all their issues ironed out.

ATI IMO has very little problems out of the box, majority of all there settings available in XP are in Vista as well, there are a few issues here and there with multiple monitors. Crossfire is fully supported in D3D, not at all in opengl from what i've seen.

Most of all OpenGL games have nearly full accerlation and work out of the box, most of all D3D games work GREAT out of the box.

Overdrive works, however i am having some issues with the Clocks sticking after a restart. This could easily be resolved in the 7.2 cats for vista.

Overall, i'm quite happy with the official 7.1's, happy enough to start installing a few machines i'm building for a few customers with vista and these drivers. (however warning them of some capability and other performance issues related to vista or the ati drivers)...

If i were to pick, i would definitely go ATI for Vista over nvidia. (at this point)
