Deletion is on a distinguished road

Core 2 Duo

I am considering buying a core 2 duo setup. Right now I have:

AMD 4400+ x2
1GB Corsair Value Ram
x1800xt 512mb
ASUS A8N5X Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX

I am thinking about upgrading to this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz 2M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
ASUS P5L-VM 1394 LGA 775 Intel 945G Micro ATX
CORSAIR XMS2 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
x1800xt 512mb

Now my main question is would I experience more of a boost in performance in games such as Counterstrike source than I would if I were to just upgrade to 2gb of gaming ram on my AMD machine?

My second question being what if I overclocked to 2.4?

Thanks,

Deletion

I'm only just now getting my own feet wet with a C2D E6700 and 1 GB of OCZ Dual Channel RAM [800] running at 667. I don't play CS at all, but, I DO play Oblivion a LOT.

What I can say for sure is, my previous system was an AMD with X2 4800+ and 2 GB of Dual Channel RAM with the X1950 Pro 256 MB video card. I had absolutely no complaints with that system at all. And, I did notice some significant improvement when I went from 1 GB to 2 GB of RAM.

However, I've had one HUGE issue just the past couple of days with Oblivion. If I have ANY audio device enabled, I get 2 - 3 FPS when in outdoor surroundings. (I've posted about it in the Gaming forums here.) With no audio device enabled, I can boost my settings to Ultra High, 1280x1024 and see 40 - 80 FPS in the same surroundings.

If you're contemplating buying the RAM locally, I'd go that route first. If you're not satisfied with the results, I'm sure you can exchange the RAM if you decide to upgrade to the new system you described. I just can't say whether you'll get the kind of performance you want or not.

Good luck!

Thank you. I guess that is what I'll do since I don't know how to overclock!
