TBred Questions---What does it all mean?

Okay...i've been off from the whole processor front for a while, and only recently have i considered upgrading...I've already posted about this in my 9800 Cpu upgrade post...but as i've pored over all the data something has cropped up that is confusing the heck out of me... Can anyone point me too or explain this thoroughbred situtation?? I have no clue...tried Zardon's post about it somewhere here that didn't make to much sense to me at the time i read it. Any help would be greatly appeciated. I'm trying to aim for the 2400+, i considered the barton's but i'm figuring that i really don't want those...Still as i was surfing around the web this came up:

Can you exlpain if this is a good idea to buy from here or to avoid this particular model altogether? When i was reading Zardon's post it seemed to me that this only affected processor below the 2400+..but then again i'm really not sure. For my mobo check my specs..this one can go up to 333FSB as i've seen on MSI's Site..Again, thanks for your help.

well instead of posting the whole thing why not just post the actual issue so we know for sure which thing you are talking about?


but if you are referring to the voltage issue.....well most motherboards supply the voltage automatically to the cpu and its not an issue......its just them covering their ass pure and simple not a real issue

I don't know what you're asking, but that cpu will definitely work with your board. But remember that OEM chips only have a 30 day warranty and come with no hsf, unlike the retail's that have a 3 year warranty and a cheap hsf. Also OEM's are just as good; I have bought my last three chips as oem and I have never had an issue. I only shop at www.newegg.com because of their hassle free rma and customer service.

Well, what i am concerened about is the entire naming scheme. I can't sort through the label "Throughbred" From what I've gathered is it's simply a model type. What i don't know is if it only applies to the Athlon XP processor, or the whole AMD lineup. Also from what i've read is that there is apparently a "Revision B" out there. Can you explain this, and does it apply to the 2400+ at all, or only the ones below this particular model number? Thanks.

Pretty much everything in AMD's lineup has moved over to the Tbred core; from the 1700 all the way to the 2800. Not sure if they are all the 'B' version of the Tbred, but anything 2400+ and over is most defnitely a 'B' core. There's also a new Barton core which has a 512kb level 2 cache. These are the 2500+, 2800+(available in Tbred and Barton), and 3000+. Also no matter what the core, they're all Athlon XP's.


PS. If you wanna make sure you get a 'B' core, go with a 2400+ or anything higher
