Do I need 64bit Win XP for a dual core 64 bit CPU?
I didn't even think of it when I ordered my new system. I currently have the same copy of windows xp home I've had all along. Do I need to get 64 bit XP professional for my Athlon 64 X2 dual core processor to work? I'd hate to have to have to buy a retail copy.. argh
Thanks

no, the 32bit version of windows will work right outa the box just fine.
just make sure that when you get into windows for the first time, install the latest AMD CPU driver and the AMD Dual Core Optimizer from AMD's website

The driver is more for other things, xp by default doesn't have really a current up to date cpu driver. I'm not sure if it makes any huge differences, but some games seem to incorrectly operate without it, other games require the optimizer to work at all.

Don't worry about the driver unless you're running Cool & Quiet, it doesn't affect performance at all, only voltage/speed scaling.
