HDMI is the new HDTV standard in use.... it's a pure digital video/audio connection between whatever devices it'll work with.
Many new HDTVs have HDMI in.

gotta love the High Def multi-functional monitors...mine doesn't do HDMI, but it's does do HDCP compliant DVI & component/composite...which is plenty good for me and my non-XBox 360/PS3/next-gen optical disc player self anyways...hell..my next-gen disc player will be internal SATA/IDE anyways

I like the FP241W, was on my list but ended up getting the Dell 2407WFP because it does 1:1. It's cool that the BenQ has HDMI, but since i don't have anything that uses that, i chose the 1:1 feature of the Dell.
I have the XBox360 and the HD-DVD player through the VGA right now and if ever i get something that uses HDMI, i will hook it up to a DLP tv that i'm planning on getting in the new year.
Enjoy!

benq has a new 1:1 firmware out if you buy your monitor in january. moreover has the dell banding issues which is mentioned in several reviews etc. It doesnt have a very good display quality and this is mentioned in several reviews. Find it out that for gaming you choose the dell instead of the benq since the benq is hailed by many as the first gaming and picture perfect 24" LCD

The banding issues have for the most part been fixed, and I haven't had any issues with quality at all. Never mind I bought mine for dirt cheap.

24 inch monitors with component and HDMI input is the best thing to buy right now. Most of them can display 1080P content too.
Thats somethin 20 inch widescreens can't do.And thats why i'm holding out on getting a monitor.

Native resolution of an LCD, in my case is 1920x1200. If you play a game which has a max res of 1024x768 then the monitor will scale the image to 1920x1200. This can result in blurry or stretched images. So you have the option to run it in 1:1 where the 1024 will be displayed as 1024 and the remaning space filled with black.
Top picture is fill mode, buttom is 1:1
Using XBox360, the fill mode will stretch the image verticaly. If you look at the top pic you will see the radar in the bottom left is oval, instead of round in the bottom pic which is 1:1
How much this bothers you is, well, up to you. Text could look unsharp is another example. Purists will appreciate 1:1 modes but to each his own.

I might not have read every single review, but my 2407wfp is revision a03 and everything looks good. MaximumPC chose this model for their dream machine, gave it a 9+kickass and gave it best lcd of 2006. So for every bad review there is a good review. I'll go back and look at some reviews of the BenQ.
And what do you mean for gaming? Are we still talking about ghosting? Didn't that die in 2005? I have thrown many games at my dell and have never noticed any anomalies.
Like i said, the BenQ was at the top of my list too. In fact i was thinking of getting both the dell and benq and then deciding which one is better and keeping that one and selling the other. Or just keep both and have dual 24s . There was an open-box discounted at ncix, almost went for it.
I would love to try the BenQ. Have to see it with the new firmware. For now I'm enjoying my 24" and i'm sure you are too. Game on!

I dont know how true it is but I have read lots of times that there are only 3 or 4 companies that make LCD's of every type.LG,Samsung, and I cant remember the other one.

ahh thats why you want 1:1 mode .... of course that would bother me in some games, especially BF2 which has no wide screen support. But 1:1 gaming etc. is no problem....
and I run everything of my PC (graphics card) so I didnt need the 1:1 on the monitor or I would have waited 1 month (now I need to send it in for an update)
I didnt even realize thats why people want a 1:1 option cause I always thought you just tick this setting in the drivers!?

Just to clarify what HDMI is - it is not a High Definition standard like 720p or 1080i, but it is the connector and cable through which the digital information for video and audio are transmitted between devices.
Here's a nifty faq...
Nice display there germanjulian, and the desk reminds me of my own a couple of days after I clean it up - no, mine's much | |
