tv out/audio out question

Hi, i've a little question...

I always use my computer with speakers connected to spkout-1 of my live 5.1 [the green connector, the one to use if you have stereo speakers].

Now i've connected tvout of my radeon 8500le to a tv in another room, and i need to connect the audio also... But i want to make a permament connection, so i don't want to always disconnect the speakers of the pc from the audio card to connect the cables that goes to the tv. Should i use a Y-connector on the sound card? I don't want to reduce quality of the audio output in any way, so i'm searching the best way to do it... so is it safe to use that y-connector jack? There's no way to replicate the spkout-1 in the spkout-2?

If you use a decent Y-connector (such as a Sony), there will probably be no detectable drop in sound quality. I have noticed that some cheaper ones (such as Labtec) decrease the volume by quite a great deal.

As far as the green and black connectors, I'm sure you can have them produce the same sound. If you play a sound within Windows, it plays the same sound in the front and rear (double-stereo vs true surround). Play with the Mixer if you have LiveWare installed -- I know you can fine tune what is played through what speakers that way.
