help choosing an LCD
well my CRT is getting alittle...um...melty. its about to die SO its time to buy a new monitor!!
I dont want a CRT again just cause I dont feel that they lost terribly long (this one lasted 2 years......and its a SONY!!! My viewsonic lasted 3 years) and also because they're bulky and whistle when they start dying.
SO...LCD it is. Now heres the deal. I ordered a Dell 2007WFP but it seems like they're screwing me on the price and I'm being overcharged so I MAY return the thing (its being shipped as we speak). If I do, I was wondering if there was an alternative. I'd like a 20" widescreen LCD thats good for gaming, DOESNT ruin colors (like the dell e207wfp supposedly does) and IDEALY it can rotate like the 2007WFP. cause I like rotating displays.
So anyone have any suggestions? If its priced lower than the 2007WFP (which currently is going for about $350 after discounts and taxes) lemme know.

I really like the acers too. Both the 20" and the 22" are bargains compaired to other brands. No frills, just a solid monitor.

Acer Gamer Lineup series are by far the best... or the tighter responce times in the Acer Prestige series is also excellent.
get the Crystal Brights, true as true blacks and excellent bright whites.

I was thinking about this acer
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009094
one of my friends was like "BLECH ITS SO LOW RESOLUTION!" cause apparently 22" screens are suppose to be more (hes a die hard mac user though and doesnt play games)
I think it'll be okay though cause I'm fairly blind (the whole reason for getting a big monitor) and i like games so I think higher rez wont work so well.
Thoughts?

that has good specs... but you won't get insane quality. with the 2032 or ferrari monitor its like crystal clear. greys and blacks look natural and it's so damn wide

weird...according to THG those two monitors are kinda bad...they said pretty much you get an "average" experience for a high price.
I dunno. I think I'm torn between the expensive 22" Acer and this 20" Benq on newegg. I've seen Benqs before and they're always nice

I have a benq, and I think they're underrated. I've seen nothing but quality pictures out of their lcd's. Still, that 22" acer is a bargain imo - I'd go that route.

If your going to buy a monitor, make sure you check the Manufacturers website for TRUE specs and to try and find the model that you think will suite you.
Why?
Because as soon as you get something your looking for, that when you try and look for the price on it.
The display is the most important interface to the computer, WAY to many people go cheap on this sucker and end up being a little disapointed with there experience. Specially if your eyeballs feel like they are about to fall outa your head.
Reguardless, As far as i know, the widescreen solutions from Acer are no where near the Gamer Lineup Acer has with Crystal Bright design. If your playing games, and you don't wanna pop your wallet, Get a Standard Ratio Monitor. Widescreens are still going to cost you a bunch for good quality in comparison imo.

I ordered some parts to upgrade my computer and i too was looking for an lcd. My Viewsonic crt is still kickin, so it's a shame to see it go (unless i keep it as a secondary). At first i wanted 2 19"s, then decided on a 24", then decided on a 24" and a 19", and after (virtualy) looking at many models i can tell you that my brain is about to explode. So many specs to look at, reviews to read, customer comments to keep in mind. I have not found the "perfect" lcd. Whatever that means. I don't even know any more. I want good responce times, deep blacks, accurate colours, multiple inputs, good scaling, some manual control on those scallings (1:1), alot of picture modes (4:3, 16:9, Stretch), and other exotic stuff (PiP, PbP)...
I was considering VP2330B, 2407FPW, 244T (my brother has this, pretty nice), FP241W for the 24s and VP930B or 1907FP for 19. I caved in and ordered the Dell 2407FPW. I really like the specs of the BenQ though (HDMI, hello! can anyone say HD-DVD player for my X360...) In fact, i might cave in again and order it too and then compare which one is better, then sell the lesser one to my friend, or just keep both and have 2 24s instead of 1 + a 19.
Judas, how's the 3007WFP?

After using a few of the dell 30"s, I'd have to say that since the first ones that i got into my shop, to the most recent one that i used (a little over a month since i've had it mind you, i've got another showing up hopefully the 30th with no problems), i'd have to say they are utterly amazing, but from what you want, not something you'd want.
The image is steller, the blacks are damn fine, the responce times are great (only durring the colder days do "feel" like i notice some ghosting, but when it's been on for a good hour, it's all good, this is due to running say 10*C as i close shop for the night and durring the winter, it gets down to 10*C at night)
The thing is, the 3007FPW, only has one video input method, and that's a DVI-D plug. And you MUST have a DVI-D compliant video card, or else you get a 1280x800 30" display which still doesn't look bad at all, just not as pretty (you could say easily a LCD has 2 Native Resolutions as the banding or oddities seen by running between 2560x1600 or 1280x800 is none excistant as far as i can tell)
If i were to rate the 3007FPW, i'd give it a solid 9 our of 10 probably. It could use some work, but nothing to the point of downplaying it. Only the smaller expensive lcd could beat out it's quality.
and omg, play a 1080p video on this suck, it's so.... so... clean and crisp.

Have you guys here seen the all new Aquos Sharp LC37D90U ? with its incredible 1920x1080p resolution ? with a DVI and HDMI inputs ? I am thinking of getting this one. I have BenQ 30" HDTV with a DVI input. Anyone interested ? I paid a hefty $ 3000 when it came out a year ago. I know the prices have dropped considerbly but it is yours for the asking price of $700. all in CAN funds. BTW the resolution is incredibly crispy clear while running as a PC with my ATI Radeon 1600 Pro. Just going crazy after looking at the Sharp.

well I bought the Acer AL2216WB. I saw so many good reviews and a serious lack of bad reviews so I decided to get it. The complaints I heard involved color correctness (which a few sites gave methods for actually fixing...) and the stand feeling cheap. Everywhere I saw things like "WONDERFUL FOR GAMING" "NO GHOSTING!" stuff like that.
So I get it and plug it in. It looks GORGEOUS. Unfortunately firefox tears all over the place. As in screen tearing. I dont even get it.
then I play HL2. That seems okay but something was just different about it. I didnt worry cause it was gorgeous.
then comes Fable. I opened fable...did a quick 360 camera spin and nearly vomited. I seriously felt physically ill from the blur. Is this right? Did I mess something up? Or did I just get a really BAD display.
anyway Im giving it a few days before I return it. I just love the size so much. I can actually SEE things on the screen. (note: Im going blind so a large monitor was a must)

this sounds more along the lines of refresh rate problems...
i'd force the refresh rate on fable, also try fooling around with your drivers a bit. its been a while since ive used forceware, but i know guru3d has a shitload of tweaks

^ that's what I'm thinking...it's probably forced to something else. Make sure it's 60hz everywhere. Also, if you're not already, use a dvi cable.

use the highest refresh rate speced for the monitor at it's native resolution.
BTW, go to start~>Run~>
Type : dxdiag
ok
then over on the far tab, you can punch in a forced Refresh rate value for every game that loads up. this is a fairly nice method or alternative method for forceing D3D games to a refresh rate.

I tried your suggestions. it helped a bit but its still nausiating playing fable.
Then I found a driver on Acer's website. That took care of the tearing but now its just REALLY blury. the motion blur is unacceptable. It really is just GROSS.
I dunno what I'm going to do now...maybe I will order a dell after all. I dunno. uhg.
Okay so I spent $350 and with a restocking fee I may only get about $300 back from this (I'm gunna try to get the full amount but we'll see) so what is the best monitor you'd suggest for $300. I want to to not tear, not blur, and play games great. Also note that I'm going blind. I had a 20" Sony CRT before so its gotta be at least that big screen size wise. I dunno exactly about pixel pitch but from what some of my friends told me, a slightly larger pixel pitch might actually be a GOOD thing for me (considering sometimes I have trouble reading text).
