Radeon X1900XT or Geforce 7900GTO, what to buy?

Hello everyone...

Well my 1800XL is starting to give me problems. Using ATITool Artifact testing I am getting Artifacts at stock speeds and I am starting to see big FPS drops in the games I play. Not sure what is going on, but I think she could be on her last leg. Now to the point of this post...

I am looking at getting a new card and I have two to pick from in my price range of $250s (not going high end right now, I'll wait for DX10).

1... eVGA GeForce 7900GTO

2... Sapphire Radeon X1900XT

If you could please, help me out with the one I should get. I have to say I have been with ATI forever so I am bit "worried" (if that is the best word to use) to go with another company, but maybe the time has come to make that leap. This is the 2nd ATI card that has worked well for about a year or so then gave me problems, with no playing around on my part with the card. Not looking for help to fix or find the problem with this card.

I have added a pole for the 2 cards, please vote on what one to get and please give the reason why I should go with that card. I hope we can keep the company wars out of this, lets just work with the specs that each card has to offer (I would post links to the cards, but I wasn't sure if that was allowed). Thanks for helping me spend my money

Well, becasue of the extra features and usability of the ATI card, I gotta say ATI. I'm about quality, not quantity, and ATI meets those expectations, IMHO.

Well, the 7900GTO's...remember all those reports of 7900's dying? Guess what happened to them?

Thanks for pointing that out... To be honest I didn't know of the problem, being with ATI I didn't really pay much atention to nvidia, but I sure did see my card being pulled shorty after I bought it

The 7900GTO's have GTX coolers, and can be overclocked to GTX speeds. Stock, the GTO will last longer because of the high end cooling, and underclock on the memory. I am building a system, i just bought RAM, and i decided on the GTO.

Thanks for the input, I went with the 1900XT and also picked up the Arctic Cooling Accelero x2 to put on top of her, $22.00 just had to get it.

Personally i have a 7900gt and had it for about 4 months with 0 issues. But then again i have a lifetime warrenty on mine if it dies. That is the nice part of buying from a good vender.

I voted the 7900GT because it looks to be a far better value and if you buy from a reputable manufacturer it should be fine, that and though ATI has more 'features' nVidia's drivers are better written these days

NV all the way... NV's Anti-Alaising is MUCH smoother now than ATI's...
