opinions on coolers!

so I'm pretty set on getting that opteron 165! The only problem is that I'm not sure if I want to go with the stock cooler or if I want to buy another cooler.

any suggestions?

and yes I'm planning on overclocking. I'm not an overclocking fiend by any stretch but I'd love to OC this sucker (currently I have an athlon xp 2800+ at 2.5ghz so thats about the level of OCing I do)

Money is an issue so if its not terribly expensive its better.

I find the Athlon stock Coolers just fine.

If you still insist, you can let me know where you buy from and I can recommend the cooler I would be buying. But to be honest, I'd stick with the stock cooler on an Opteron, they are efficient enough not to need special coolers in order to perform.

For good value/performance coolers, the Titan NK32 and the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro come in mind.

well basically if I was running it stock I wouldnt care, but I do plan on overclocking.

still after reviewing newegg opteron reviews it seems like people get awesome overclocks on the stock cooler.

I suppose I can always buy a new cooler later (though I think now you have to bold the suckers on so its a pain...meh)

Thermalright XP-90 gets mine, even better if you already have a spare fan to through on it?

You getting a good deal on the Opteron? Here in Canada, I could get two Athlon X2 3800+ for the same price, see which one overclocked more, then sell off the other one.

i thought certain AMD's came with heatpipe coolers very similair to the arctic coooler freezer 64 pro, mine didnt, it was a basic aluminum cooler, but i though it was the nicer opterons that did, id say if it does come with a heat pipe cooler go with that, if not get a freezer 64 pro, i got mine for 25 bucks from newegg cpla months back, temps never really reach above 35 celcius, even over clocked from 2.2 to 2.7(no voltage change), heat pipe is the way to go though.

why not get the zalman flower everybody talks about the cnps7000 i think it is? i've used that cooler in many systems, and it works great!

I almost bought it though.

what im gunna do is buy my setup now I think...and then if im dissatisfied with the cooler I'll replace it!

I just pray to god that I dont need to remove the mobo to change the HSF

a co-worker told me that this Thermaltake's SilentTower works real good in cooling CPU, and since he has been using many of the others (that were costing him more than this one) before i tend to believe him and it's very cheap as i told.
the unit doesn't look good or like a new product or anything as you can see at the pic... but the fan(s) can be replaced and easy to remove when cleaning the unit.
if you like me since it'll not be seeing anyway so i don't care how it looks. and like to test it on a P4 systems as soon as i can locate and buy it. however, i'm not sure if it's also made for your socket, borad or can be fixed in your system, nor have checked any reviews about this product yet. and you may need to remove you board to install it. so if you're interested in it, check it out first.

Thermaltake isn't a name I'd associate with being silent, their silent coolers typically aren't 'silent' as say the Vantec Stealth's or something similar, but they do make some good coolers, their more recent efforts haven't been as good though I've noticed
