64 bit computing + brand new core with 1MB cache = Very Very Fast. Also, memory controller is on the CPU instead of on the Northbridge, so the time it takes to get info from RAM is extremely reduced.

They are AMD chips. The more expensive and more powerful server variants of the chips are going to be called Opterons and are going to be released relatively soon... though the desktop chips are still somewhat far away...

Just to give you an idea of the complexity of the new processors.

LMFurryAO ! I know how you feel... I bought my Athlon XP 1600+ (AGOIA core) for 46 dollars shipped! and immediatly took it to a 166FSB. At that speed it takes a 2.53GHz P4 to keep up... not too bad for a processor that cost FAR less. I dont hate Intel, but I have been burned with the constant socket changes.

ok check this out, i have a xp2700 and the best thing about AMD's is u can overclock them ALOT, but with P4's they can only be overclocked 200 mhz more, heres the sad thing. i did a test amd without a heatsink, and then a pen the pen got into windows then shut down the amd only got to DOS

Intel's can be oc'ed way over 200mhz, but the mhz/performance ratio is higher in AMD's

If you pulled the heatsink off of your AMD Athlon, and powered it up... it would be dead in less than 3/10ths of a second.

WTF? "and then a pen"? what are you talking about?
Why the hell would anyone do a so called "test" and turn on your PC without a heatsink attached to the CPU?
I gotta know what you are talking about man, I have a couple names for you in my head right now. I really want you to make them go away by telling us what you mean.

ok i build ALOT of computers and i have about 15 mother boards laying around ( mostly under 600 mhz) and alot of processors (again mostly under 600 mhz) so i just got 2 mobo's and threw an AMD processor in one and a pentium celeron in the other WITHOUT heatsinks it was just a simple test on wich one would come out on top now i didnt pay shit for all the parts and i have a hell of alot more and their not worth anything to anyone so f*ck it lol the AMD got into dos and turned off and was all black and chared, but the celeron booted win M.E. b4 it shut down, and when it did i put a heatsink on it and it worked ( not prefectly but eh, wut the hell) so that was my Stress test on AMD Vs. INTEL like i said they didnt cost me anything and their not worth anything to anyone

Ohhh, I thought by reading your post you did that to a 2700+xp or something! I understand about the old cpu's that are basically worth nothing. Ya scared me there for a sec., I mean who in their right mind would fry a 2700xp on purpose? I got an old AMDk6-2 450mgz w/ motherboard in the closet, but wouldn't someone on e-bay want it for 10 dollars or so? For what reason I'm not sure, but I thought there were people who still wanted these old things.
