New HD

i just bought 2 500 gb wd5000ks drives. The first works fine, but the 2nd ive been having problems with. I formatted it with partitionmagic, and restarted. I started to copy files, but it stopped on a file. I tried to cancel and the computer froze. I restarted, but it wouldnt boot, until i turned it off. Now i can't get back into windows, when that drive is hooked up. It stops right before windows loads and makes a clicking noise every 15 seconds or so. Anyone have an idea? I set it to primary partition when i was formatting. Could that be a problem? Anyone know a program i can use to move the files, but not within windows?

thanks

At least it happened right away! Just return it and you did not lose much data I would guess so thats cool!

When I transfer data to different hard drive I ALWAYS copy first and once i know that it went over smooth then I delete it from the other hard drive just in case something happens!

sorry by not within windows i meant in DOS, bad choice of words. When i use a program from the ultimate boot disk, i can see the files on the hd. I just can't boot up with it connected. I will definately return it, but was hoping i could get the data off it.

Yeah i should have copied first. Doh.

that command would be xcopy - type xcopy /? for help on all the switches, and don't forget the /h switch to grab all those hidden and system files...
