??? Sata

hi guys
i m really confused
i didnt know the difference between ide and sata hard drives
so i purchased sata hdd - Seagate 80gb 3.0gb/s
and now i have problems
thing is my master ide (main) burned but i have andother ide that doesnt have windows on it
it has only has music, videos... and it's corrupted so i cant install windows on it
so when i connected new SATA hdd - bios cant find it
in my mobo manual it says:
SATA RAID
build-in VT8237 supports 2 serial ATA devices for the highest data rates (1.5gbps burst) with RAID 0 & RAID 1
does it support my hard drive?
so if my mobo supports only 1.5 - is that a reason bios cant find my hard drive?
and should i find jumper somewhere and put it on hard drive so i would limit it to 1.5gbps
m i doin something wrong? or what?
plz somebody help
thanks

if that other HDD that just has all your data will be the only HDD on there, make sure to place it on it's own IDE controller, and then have it set to the master configuration.

You might need to update your mobo bio and/or get the VIA SATA drivers disk.

i changed my ide hd to master (like somebody said)
so i used that jumper that was on ide (coz u don't need jumper if u makin hd master u don't need jumper)
and put it on sata one
maybe ide jumper not compatible with sata one
coz still no result
bios don't detect sata

oh ssssshhhhhhhiiiiiizzzzzzzzz!
it's workin
i inserted jumper wrong
but i have another problem
i inserted windows xp cd
but it is not loadin
it says windows could not started because one of the files is missing or corrupted

what do i do?
and also it shows VIA RAID controller
i should tap TAB quick
and there it says create RAID array with hard drives attached to VIA RAID controller
maybe all this because of ide hard drive set to master
or is it makes difference what port do i use on mobo - sata 1 or sata 2

PangingJr has a spectacular aura aboutPangingJr has a spectacular aura aboutPangingJr has a spectacular aura about

i think you already know what this is... under the P-ATA (ATA or IDE) hard drive the Master/Slave setting is done via the hard drive's jumper pins and master/slave positions on IDE connector of the IDE cable.

but you may not know this... for systems that use S-ATA hard drives and the standard "IDE mode" have been configured for the controller/connectors the hard drives Master/Slave setting are still exist.

with S-ATA hard drives the Master/Slave setting can only be accomplished via the connectors (SATA ports).

when the S-ATA hard drives are connected to the connectors that are designed for handing the master/slave setting, Both the motherboard's BIOS's and Windows's devices mapping (and device mounting in Windows) info will show the status of master/slave of the devices accordingly.
BIOS POST screen shows the info during the system starts, the Windows Device Manager displays the similar info under the node IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.

master/slave setting do not exist in system that is configured for RAID (this also includes IDE RAID or ATA RAID), the RAID's BIOS handles the S-ATA controller/connectors differently.
once the system has been configured for RAID, the BIOS RAID takes over the control of the S-ATA controller/connectors from the motherboard's BIOS.

anyway, by default, the SATA_1 is normally set for use as Master. the rest and other S-ATA connectors can be very. different motherboards and chipset that is used on the board have different settings on this...
