Hard drive noise ?calibration?

Once in a while I hear a kind of whine and clicking noise from my hard drive rack. Is this a normal kind of noise?

Someone said it's just a hard drive recalibrating after temperature variation.

SMART analysis shows no problems but I'd just like some reassurance I'm not about to lose a shitload of data in a hurry. Especially as a data recovery on my works PC cost in excess of a thousand quid (Sterling) and only netted me about 35% more than I'd managed to recover - total recovery was less than 75%
