Bad Network HUB...
How many others have had to replace faulty wired HUBs?
I'm not sure if the power adapter is going bad or if it's the HUB itself. But, I've had THREE different ones to quit working over the past few months.
One is D-Link (DI-704) and the other is LinkSys (NF6304). Both are wired with the D-Link also being a router as well as a HUB. The third one was the first one to go bad and has been trashed for some time.
I noticed the most recent one, the LinkSys, going bad when my own connection kept giving me a quick warning of Cable Unplugged and then would just as quickly restore again. The light would start flashing on and off very fast and then started alternating between green and amber.
I didn't think these things were be so sensative that they would burn out so quickly.

Lightning = burned out ports and hubs.
While it hasn't happened to me personally, I do support for an ISP and hear this stuff all the time.

Spike bar means shit all if you've got under current or "brown out" power. Brown outs don't technically mean that your lights get dimmer all the time, but it can get shallow enough to cook stuff quickly.
ATM, i recommend anyone.. at all, running any form of electrical appliances such as tvs/computers/vcrs/what have you. To have a full blown APC Back-ups, even if it's only a $30 one... i'd rather have solid clean and surge protected/undersurge protected power then a cheap pos surge only.

Spike bars also wear out over time. I replace mine every 2 years on my computer equipment.

Good thoughts all!
I do have decent UPS on my main rig and surge protectors on everything else. I wouldn't think of plugging anything but the surge protectors into the wall sockets.
BUT, we do live in an area that seems to be prone to surges/brownouts and lots of thunderstorms. So, yes, I agree, those could all add up to the cause of the problem.
Weird, though, that it seems only the HUBs are what's getting fried....if, indeed, that's the problem.

UPDATED:
All the difference in the world!!
Stopped by MicroCenter this afternoon and picked up a new LinkSys 5-Port Workgroup Switch. Was only $14.99 plus tax.
So far, very stable and fast!
