Smilie Getting ready to build new server/workstation

I am want to build a Dual AMD Opteron and ATi crossfire system. I do not know which products to choose to bulid my server. I do not know if the crossfire will work on the nvidia chipsets and vice versa. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I also want to know if AMD is going to go to the 939 pin with its Opteron line or not so that I should wait before I would upgrade my old server which lost its IDEs on board. Shoot me some complete system specs (I mean the whole computer tower to make it).

The reason I want to do this is that I will be doing HDTV audio and video editing with it and I want a big monster workstation/server with dual core - dual Opteron.

thanx in advance

pete

AMD is moving away from socket 939 to socket AM2 (Athlon 64 series, Opteron 1xx) and socket F (other Opterons).

Nice thing about socket F for the future is that it may allow for drop in upgrade to quad-core opterons when they are released down the road...

Make sure if you get a socket F mobo that is will support quad-core opterons, some might -- happend with the some of the early 939 motherboards, they do not support duel core.

Indeed, and I haven't even heard of a socket F board available yet. Support in the chipset should should be there - with additional support from the manufacturer. You're absolutely right, especially when a new form factor is introduced - gotta read the fine print and get reliable information from the vendor or manufacturer...
