Max Lengths For Internal power and sata cables???

Right place for this, or should be modding? anyway

I need to know the max length that I can purchase both internal power (standard 3 pin molex) cables, and standard SATA cables for hdds etc. (not sata2)

so....what ?

I know from college sata cable can be nice and long (don't remember how long, 10ft(?)), but what about power?
if I wanted to power drives (dvd, hd) a fair bit (maybe 2 / 3 feet) away from the mobo and psu, would I be better off powering them off a seperate psu closer to them??
