Dell 2001fp seems jerky

I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this? Whenenver I use this monitor to play racing games in particular, it seems like the graphics are awfuly jerky. Not jerky as in the system is being taxed to hard, but like the monitor can't keep up with the rendering of the graphics. I have the resolution set to 1600x1200 @ 60hz. One game that does it most is Need For Speed: Most Wanted. I am getting a good framerate (60+ most of the time) If I drop the resolution to even 1280x1024, it still does it. Vsync does help, but it doesn't completely fix the problem.

This monitor mostly does this with games that require really fast movement like racing games. NFSMW is only one example.

If I reconnect my NEC 19" lcd, the game is as smooth as butter all the way around. I'm suspecting maybe it is due to the 16ms repsonse time on the Dell, whereas on my NEC, the response time is 8ms.

I really want to keep this Dell, but the jerkiness is driving me nuts. Is there any way around this problem? Or is it just a characteristic of the monitor?

Enable Vsync

this will quite likely fix the "tearing/Jerky/Hicupping" effect you may be seeing

Response time wouldn't have a jerking effect and if anything it would just ghost to hell. NFSMW is not the best game to test with as it is fairly 'jerky' even on my x1900.

Also depending on how each company measures response time, the Dell with its 16ms reasponse, might actually be faster than your old 8ms display

I have tried running with Vsync enabled. While it does improve things, it isn't as it should be. Like I said, my 19" lcd runs as smooth as glass with or without Vsync.

Maybe I am just beeing too picky?

I don't think that is the case. I made sure to remove the .inf file for the 19" when I hooked up the 2001fp. And vice versa for when I reconnect the 19". I also removed all traces of them in the registry when I would switch between the two.

This wouldn't require a Windows reload would it? I wouldn't think so for just a monitor.

no.. it shouldn't.... the CCC and with todays video cards.... when a monitor is unplugged and another plugged in without rebooting or uninstalling the previous.... helll you could hot swap without doing a damn thing, they usually auto reconfigurs quite easily...
