I'd go with the higher contrast display.

What are you going to be driving the panel with, and what type of games do you play?

Dell has some really nice panels for decent prices.

Well first I would look for reviews on the monitors/models you are looking at. However, the best bet would be if you can play with them at bit.

Price wouldn't hurt either if are willing to try another manufacture.

Sony used to be a quality manufacturer but IMO they have fallen bigtime over the last several years. Over priced because of their past reputation, I would look at Dell LCD's for their great value.

Tipstaff has commented on this in the past...

Generally, because of limitations to the technology and how LCDs are made and how they respond to the driver signals, you will generally see LCD with high contrast ratios with higher response times - look carefully. If the LCD is rated below about 16ms (right now anyway...) AND has a high (over 500:1) contrast ratio, you may also notice that it is a 6bit (16.2 million colors available) panel rather than an 8bit panel that will display more colors - this also has to do with how many shades of gray (on down to black) it will display - FYI...

Look for a nice panel to display 16.7 million colors rather than 16.2 million.

Research by the companies is ongoing too - the panel industry is heavy into research and development constantly right now. They're trying to make them better...
