keep or remove?

I'm wondering...My comp has a dvd drive and a floppy drive. I never use either. Should I remove them, will it save juice to my power supply? I'm going to get get a new video card either an nvidia 6600 gt agp or a radeon x850 agp. I know the x850 is a little more powerful but I like the quality and stability I've gotten with the nvidia cards I've owned. The x850 is also about $50-$75 more. I don't know if I want to spend that much when I might upgrade my whole system in a year or so. The thing is both say recommended 350w power supply or greater. My power supply is exactly 350. So I'm wondering if I remove those 2 drives if it would allow more juice to run the vid card if needed, or does that not matter?

It won't save a lot but if you don't use them then you might as well do it. Might feel nice to ditch the old floppy too. The 6600GT's aren't too heavy on the load so you should be fine with what you have.

In all honesty, if the devices aren't in use then they won't be drawing any power at all. They only do so when you insert media into them. So, it's no real advantage power-wise to remove them.

If you were talking about cooling and needing more space for airflow, then I could see an benefit to removing them under that scenario. Otherwise, they aren't hurting anything where they are. Where else would you put them? In a drawer somewhere where they'll take up space needlessly?

Even if there were a power concern, just pull the power connector from the back of each of them and, voila!, no more power to the device.

I'll leave them in there then, just wasn't sure how much energy if any they might use, ty~ My next comp won't have any of that. It's interesting, the more technologically advanced we get it seems like I need less and less. It's time to throw out the vcr as well!
