??? Boot-up help

My buddy, who is completely PC illeterate, gave me his PC to fix. Here's the problem, in the middle of trying to watch as DVD he said his PC froze and when he rebooted he only had a blank screen.

Now I have the PC and indeed there is only a blank screen when I turn it on. No diagnostic beeps either. I can hear everything start-up though. All the fans and lights and so forth go on as if it were booting but nothing displayus. I've tried the following: different monitor, different video card, different RAM, reseating all MOBO cables, clearing the CMOS and nothing helped. I don't think its the pwr supply either because its practicly brand new, so is the PC for that matter. It was all purchased in Dec 05'.

Anything I'm forgetting or missing?

PC Secs:

3Ghz S775 P4 cpu
p5p 800 Asus mobo
430 watt generic pwr supply
512 stick ddr400 RAM
9250 ATI AGP
80gb Samsung spinpoitnt HD
DVD\RW
Floppy
Windows XP

you should test the psu with a voltmeter, and swap out the hdd just to be sure also.

no beeps always spells danger to me, but you should check everything anyway, I have had a case speaker blow on me that made me think the whole thing was dead before.

Does the monitor's power LED show amber or green after the computer is turned on and left on for a minute or so?

a 9250 is just old enough that it might not give that "no signal" screen, so it might just be the vid card with luck..

No, (gulp...) mommyboard - he's already swapped video cards - but the amber light indicates that no video signal is being sent to the monitor - just asking for one last bit of information. The poor baby isn't even posting...

From the sounds he hears and the LEDs and so forth, sounds like the power supply is working.

Sounds like RMA time (at least it's under warranty) for the ASUS P5P 800 I think...

Thanks all, I've tried all your suggestions to no avail. I think the mobo is toast. At least it's my friends and not mine. Kidding.
