Two cards synchronization problem

I have audigy 2 and Live 5.1 installed and connected via SP-DIF. SP-DIF-out of audigy is connected to spdif-in of live and vice versa.

I hope to use 6 stereo (12 mono) analog-outs and 3 stereo (6 mono) analog-ins, that these cards (on hardware level) have.

It seems to be very easy at first look. In dsp of Live I connect AC-97 in to SP-DIF-out. Then in Audigy-2 DSP I make the mixes using 6 mono signals (4 from Audigy and 2 from SP-DIF-in) and probably something from ASIO of FX-BUS. Then I get 12 mono-outs, 6 of which I connect two analog outs and six – to SP-DIF-outs. After all, I connect SP-DIF-ins of Live (in live DSP) to analog-outs.

The next problem appears: sound comes from Live to Audigy, but not vice versa. When I check SPDIF-bypass in live-mixer, sound comes from Audigy to Live, but doesn’t come from live to Audigy. The most interested effect I’ve got checking “SPDIF-bypass” in both card mixers. The sound came distorted as by flanger or delay.

So, as far I understand, the problem is in cards synchronization: LIVE tries to be synchronized by audigy-2, which is trying to be synchronized by LIVE.

Is there any chance to force, which card should be used as clock source? Or is there another way to use all the inputs and outputs of both cards at the same time?

Please, help!

The same topic in Russian is on http://www.driverheaven.net/showthread.php?t=96613

I wonder if it would work to add a second S/PDIF cable from Out pins of the SBLive to IN pins of the Audigy, so you have 2 way communication.

TravelRec might have some suggestions.

First of all, thanx to everybody for answering!

Yes, cards are connected with two cables:
- Live SPDIF out 0 is connected to Audigy2 SPDIF in 0
- Audigy2 SPDIF out 0 is connected Live SPDIF in 0.

And both connection work in one direction. I mean, when I disconnect first connection Audigy2->Live (by checking "SPDIF bypass" or unpluggin cable) second is working. And vice versa.
Still both connections at the same time do not work.

Btw, have forgotten to say: I'm using 3538h, because 3538i just beeping on my audigy2

Out of curiosity, I am going to try to connect to cards the way you did over the next couple of days.

Doug W, so you're going to face the same problem!

Btw, when I tried to use out AD_ext connectors of audigy exept for SPDIF0, they didn't work. And when I used SPDIF-out3 (pin 27), card didn't work at all. Maybe, it is necessary to connect 25 and 35 connector to fake the audigy drive. I'll try it some days later.
Or maybe there's mistake in ad_ext pinout at http://kb.kxproject.lugosoft.com/AD_EXT.jpg.

Still only SPDIF-in 0 and SPFID-out 0 work. And, of cource, SPDIF-in on the top of card.

Yet. No more ideas about how to send signals from card to another and back at the same time?

I have noticed on other threads that people have noted that not all the pins are actually activated on every card. I will try to mess with my setup on Saturday.
