The 96kHz you set in the PCM menu is probably only used when SPDIF is used for two non compressed channels.

schriss, your first ASIO driver will never work because the AC3 encodes at a sampling rate of 48kHz.

Yea, you are probably right, lets forget about 96KHz.

I have tried Battlefield 2 and I had 1 sec delay between game and sounds, so I changed ASIO latency from 4 to 2ms and it solved the problem

But I'm not getting all the sounds, maybe pins are not selected correctly... (RightMark Sound tests only surround effect, so I can't verify I'm getting Center encoded)

Are you sure you are getting all the sounds without RedocneXk?
i.e. Some games do not like the Hardware Acceleration and have missing sounds (among other possible problems), with higher Hardware Acceleration settings. Unfortunatley, I do not think kX ASIO will function properly without Hardware Acceleration set to FULL, so, for those games, RedocneXk may not be the best option (at least for kX users, I am not sure about ASIO with other drivers).

100% sure, it's set to Hardware in sound settings in the game, as soon as I quit redocne and switch to analog "5.1 channel input" I hear more sounds. I think I don't hear center channel with redocne, but will do some more tests tomorrow.

You might try using the Creative Speaker Test applet with RedocneXk, in order to test each channel (or use a 6 channel ID wave file, etc).

Yea, I have also put 2GB of VOB files on my HDD, all of them are Dolby Digital and THX tests and very cool demos

Some of them are visible in theatres just before the movie starts, especially the THX ones. Will set PowetDVD to do software decoding and see how it goes.

Yeah, that sounds good. I just thought it would be good to use something that sends a signal to each speaker, one at a time (saying the name of the speaker that you should be hearing at the time), so you can be sure each channel is working correctly.

i.e. On my download page, I have the 6 Channel ID wave file that does this. Although it only seems to work right with WMP. If you use such a file, make sure you test it without RedocneXk first, to be sure it is reporting the speakers correctly, etc.

Tried your wav in WMP and it works nice, does it have LFE? I hear all channels clearly with and without redocne, which is good, but barely hear my subwoofer.
Second thing is I hear cracks occasionally, maybe it's because I set latency to 2ms? But I have to, at 4ms there is 1sec delay when playing Battlefield2

It does have LFE, but it just plays a low frequency sound (unlike the other speakers which state the speaker position). Unfortunatly I do not have an independant subwoofer to test that with, so I am not sure what it should sound like (i.e. volume level, etc).

As for the crackling, I would guess it is due to the latency setting being too low, as you are thinking, but I am not sure why you are getting a 1 sec delay with a 4 ms setting. I really cannot test RedocneXk myself (other than basic testing), because I do not have a receiver, and AC-3 pass-through currently does not work with my card, but I do not think that you should get a 1 sec delay with a 4ms latency setting. Hopefully other people will be able to comment on what types of delays they are getting when using different latency settings.

In theory, any latency setting equal or lower than 32 ms will give about the same latency because the plugin has to buffer 32 ms of sound data for the encoding to work. In pratice, you will have to try many different latency settings and choose the one that gives you the lowest latency.

I'm guessing it's partially because of the pci data transfers. With redocneXk, there's three time more data being transfered between the card and the cpu than normally.

Hmmm, I appear to be missing sounds as well.
In WoW sounds centered on the character don't appear to work even though all 5 speakers play ok in the creative utility. As soon as I exit redocnexk these sounds play again

One thing occurs to me (knowing nothing about ASIO) - could the problem be the games are sending their sounds over directsound rather than asio?
Or could we be missing the equivalent of the dsp settings in kx (mapping the analog outputs to the asio pins?)

I can't remember if these particular sounds played with kx drivers - I'll try rolling back at some point.

Like I say, I know nothing about asio so please tell me if I'm getting things all wrong

guys, I just found out that -i 5 6 7 8 9 works for 5.1 setup in creative settings, but when I changed that to -i 6 7 8 9 10 I finally was able to hear some sounds I was missing. It isn't OK yet, because I didn't have time for tests, but it proves it has something to do with pins.

I've done some playing around with different pins for the centre channel. If I use 3 (Mix R in KRISTAL) I get the missing sounds, but I also get FR and RR from the center channel. The same if I use Mix L (2).

My guess is that the mix L carries a mix of FL, Centre and RL, and mix R carries FR, Centre and RR.

My suspicion is that the game isn't sending the centre channel (and LFE?) to the correct asio ports but does send them to the mix L and mix R channels. Unfortunately as these also include front and rear sounds it destroys the surround sound effect.

schriss - what are the different pins that give you the missing sounds labeled as in kristal?

As ever I'm only guessing so I could be completely wrong.

Mix channels you mentioned are pins 0, 1 or 2, I never tried them. I used the later ones: 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 with this I got missing sounds but surround was somehow broken, so I need to try those pins one at a time, but it's difficult when you have other players killing you when you play with redocne settings

More info - in WoW it is sounds centered on the player that don't work, if I use the option to play sounds relative to the camera rather than player (its 3rd person) the sounds work(this also effectively shifts those sounds forwards).
I am getting sounds from the centre speaker after all just not these sounds.
Another random musing - could it be the specific positioning of these sounds relative to the listener - all other sounds are in front, behind, left, right etc but these are not - they're positioned centrally. Could something (driver, redcnexk or avcodec) be imposing some sort of small deadzone around the listener?

Ok, just thought I would ask. It is strange, because you said the the 6 channel ID wave file worked for you (i.e. you heard all the speakers correctly with and without RedocneXk), and if that is true, it should mean that you were using the correct ASIO pins.

BTW: I also noticed that Battlefield 2 has some fairly high system requirements, which I guess would mean that is heavy on CPU usage, and that could effect your ASIO performance.

OK, pins used by apps and by Battlefield 2 are the same! I just launched RightMark Sound and when I position the sound source directly over the head, I barely hear anything. As soon as I quit redocne sound is back. This happens only for the center. FL, FR, SL and SR work correctly.
Now, what I tried to do was to swap last 2 pins used by redocne and then change to some other higher pins, but no results

My speaker setting is 5.1
But why do I hear center when I try Speaker Test? It doesn't make any sense...

This is strange, when I use pins -i 4 5 6 7 2 9 then I also hear all speakers in speaker test, and I hear the sound when the source is over the head in RightMark. But maybe it's just mixing L or R channel into C... if it is, then why do I hear C in speaker test? If I mapped L or R to C then I should not hear C in the speaker test.

When you say you hear all the sounds (i.e. speaker test), are you hearing them in the correct speaker, and only in the correct speaker? I have no info about the Creative ASIO drivers, as those us with Live! (10k1) models did not get any ASIO support from Creative, and thus we cannot test it ourselves. I can only refer to info in the CL knowledgebase.

From looking in the CL knowledgebase, is looks like it should be pins 4 5 6 7 8 9.

Yea, the pins look same like Kristal shows.
And yes, I heard correct sounds from separate speakers, and also in game I heard center sound, which was missing previously, for example my own footsteps and gun reload sounds.

need help to config my audigy2.. changed from nforce2ultra to nforce4 ... no soundstorm..

.. but i need 5.1 sound in games and my hifireceiver has only digital inputs.. here is a screenshot of some settings i made..as you will see some settings are missing (why?).. I don't get an ac3 stream.. my receiver shows "PCM 48".. I hope somebody could explain me what i have to do.. i've testet a lot of settings but without result.. .

I will now try to install kX Driver 3538j ..

okay..here the results..
nothing changes when starting redocneXk.. nothing.. tried form v.1.01 to 1.04 incl. the tests for SPDIF 1 / 2 ... the receiver is getting the same signal as without redocneXk..

It says you are using the Microsoft Soundmapper as the output device. That might be OK, depending on what your default Windows device is, but I would probably use RedockneXk with the -o option to get the list of drivers, and manually choose KX WAVE (0/1) for output. Also, it is not clear from the picture, which SPDIF out you are using (SPDIF 2 is highlighted in the pic). I am not sure if it works with SPDIF outputs other than the first one. Other than that, I think your settings look OK.

But maybe it's just mixing L or R channel into C... if it is, then why do I hear C in speaker test? Russ DriverHeaven Extreme Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Posts: 4,836 Rep Power: 41	When you say you hear all the sounds (i.e. speaker test), are you hearing them in the correct speaker, and only in the correct speaker? I have no info about the Creative ASIO drivers, as those us with Live! (10k1) models did not get any ASIO support from Creative, and thus we cannot test it ourselves. I can only refer to info in the CL knowledgebase. From looking in the CL knowledgebase, is looks like it should be pins 4 5 6 7 8 9. Here is a picture from the knowledgebase that seems to indicate the routing used with the Creative ASIO / Sound Blaster Audigy ASIO driver. Here is the routing, based on that pic (in case the link dies at some point): ASIO 00 - Line_In 2 Left ASIO 01 - Line_In 2 Right ASIO 02 - Mix Left ASIO 03 - Mix Right ASIO 04 - Mix Front Left ASIO 05 - Mix Front Right ASIO 06 - Mix Rear Left ASIO 07 - Mix Rear Right ASIO 08 - Mix Front Center ASIO 09 - Mix LFE ASIO 10 - Mix Rear Center 1 ASIO 11 - Mix Rear Center 2 ASIO 12 - Mix Side Left ASIO 13 - Mix Side Right ASIO 14 - SPDIF_In Left ASIO 15 - SPDIF_In Right ASIO 16 - Line_In 1/Mic Left ASIO 17 - Line_In 1/Mic Right ASIO 18 - Line_In 3 Left ASIO 19 - Line_In 3 Right Last edited by Russ; Mar 1, 2006 at 11:33 PM.

DragonofSilence DriverHeaven Newbie Join Date: Mar 2006 Posts: 13 Rep Power: 0	Audigy 2 - need your help to config redocneXk need help to config my audigy2.. changed from nforce2ultra to nforce4 ... no soundstorm.. .. but i need 5.1 sound in games and my hifireceiver has only digital inputs.. here is a screenshot of some settings i made..as you will see some settings are missing (why?).. I don't get an ac3 stream.. my receiver shows "PCM 48".. I hope somebody could explain me what i have to do.. i've testet a lot of settings but without result.. . I will now try to install kX Driver 3538j .. okay..here the results.. nothing changes when starting redocneXk.. nothing.. tried form v.1.01 to 1.04 incl. the tests for SPDIF 1 / 2 ... the receiver is getting the same signal as without redocneXk.. here the settings I made - screenshot 2 the symbol in the mixer to set spdif as output is still missing.. That might be OK, depending on what your default Windows device is, but I would probably use RedockneXk with the -o option to get the list of drivers, and manually choose KX WAVE (0/1) for output. Also, it is not clear from the picture, which SPDIF out you are using (SPDIF 2 is highlighted in the pic). I am not sure if it works with SPDIF outputs other than the first one. Other than that, I think your settings look OK.
