ok update...

When I thought I'd got it, I saved my dsp setup, and loaded another one I set up for Cubase to make sure I could sucessfully alternate between the two.
Cubase worked fine, however upon loading the ac3 encoder and settings again, the stuttering returned. No reboot.

I redid the install of kX 3538j, and the the stutter was still there. I tried a bunch of latencies in ASIO, and found that 1024 samples (21.33 ms) yielded the least stuttering. Further testing showed me the severity of the stuttering was sometimes noticably different by simply restarting the redocneXk Ac3 encoder. I played Doom3 for about 2 hours with only the occasional hitch - easily tolerable. The 21ms latency is noticable although I got used to it in the end.

Hopping out of doom to play an mp3, some stuttering returns.. goes away... returns... its quite erratic. I'm guessing here of course, but I believe my issues are connected to the redocneXk driver only.

So I decided to re-install my old SB-Live Value (CT4380) - I connected the SPDIF 0 out from that to the CD SPDIF on my SB350 - I can hear in stereo (With DOO checked and unchecked, but I also have custom DSP also - no surrounder in DSP now - not sure if that switch affects surrounder or what it changes) - but no sound comes through when redocnexk runs - unless I uncheck SPDIF BYPASS.

Anyway - I was wondering if someone got this working with A Live Value (NOT 5.1)

I played around with a bunch of the mixer settings and suspect it doesnt work with the Live value.

p.s - Im sending same stereo signal to ALL ASIO inputs on epilog - because I thought I seen some errors with ASIO ports labled for some Live cards.

also:

I found (in V 1.01) a duplicate -r entry in the readme.txt

What are you trying to test? i.e. AC3 passthru does not work for 10k1 cards.
I would guess that SPDIF bypass, bypasses the SPDIF outputs, no?
I think DOO mode, should enable the SPDIF outputs, and mute the analog outputs (or maybe on some cards,, SPDIF is always enabled (except when using SPDIF bypass?, and DOO mode only mutes the analog outputs?).
I would test (whatever you are trying to test) without using redocnexk first, as it should work the same way for any AC3 signal.

Whats really strange is the readme.txt changelog shows what was changed for V1.02 - but the exe (when running) shows that it is in fact V 1.01... Hmmm.

Well, with a custom DSP - and running a simple signal through a mixer - to JUST the DIGITAL FRONT of Epilog - The DOO switch doesnt seem to affect anything.

Im just seeing if redocnexk would be able to send 6 channels to my A2ZS from the Live Value card - thus, would give me extra (seoerate) inputs to record from - assuming I decode the AC3 stream on A2 and route accordingly in A2's DSP.

edit: as stated before - STEREO works good - changing the DOO makes no difference - it ALWAYS is working - as long as I run signal to epilogs DIGITAL FRONT OUT (I have SPDIF 0 connected from the AUD_EXT connector of Live to CD SPDIF IN on A2.

Yeah, I noticed that too (about the changelog), but forgot to mention it. I think that the second -r option is a typo, and should read -o, and it is only in v1.02.

But Im guessing that lives wont work - because AC3 passthrough isnt supported on the Live card...

redocnexk will work either way. Its job is just to encode the signals (from ASIO) and send it to kX, and then kX will either decode it, or pass it through. That is redocnexk's only job. Getting the AC3 signal to your SPDIF out is kX's job (and that does not currently work on 10k1 cards).

I just use an .AC3 file to test with (i.e. I posted a link to one a few posts back). You can play it using VLC (set to use the SPDIF output so that it gets to KX still encoded).

BTW: You might try it the other way around. (Send it out of the A2, to the Live!'s CD_SPDIF just to test it).

Well - I may do this later - Im pretty sure it would work - It was more curiosity than anything else - I *really* just wanted more midi polyphony/midi channels.
That will be also a test if the non 5.1 live will decode AC3...

Once I seen other using 2 cards - Ive been meaning to dig the old live out - but today I stumbled on it on accident and decided to throw it in. More or less - just to see if it would encode or not, and get some experience of how dual cards would work.

I think to test redocnexk without having AC3 passthru (and if you are not seeing the kX AC3 decode popup to know it is working), is to set the ASIO latency higher (i.e. 16ms), just so you can be sure and hear the echos (or the delay when you stop playing the file) to know that it is working.

BTW: Tril, in case you wondering, I have tested it with my 5.1 card in this manner.
i.e. Using Asio 4/5 6/7 8/9 with the '-i 4 5 6 7 8 9' command line switch (because asio 1/2 is not avaialble on these cards). I can set KX_WAVE 4/5 6/7 or 8/9 as the default sound device, and then play some short sounds, and hear them echo on the correct individual channels.

I tried this - I must be too thick - I see the option to 'Use the SPDIF audio output when available' - but it doesnt - it always decodes into multichannel audio.

What I don't see is how to choose the device - I eneded up changing windows default playback to select the Live card.

I do not know all that much about VLC, but SPDIF seems to only work with kX_WAVE 0/1 (set in Windows control panel). Then if you tell it (VLC) to use SPDIF when avaialble (and save those settings) it should work next time you play the file. Alternatively you can choose A/52 over SPDIF from Audio -> Audio Device to use SPDIF (again that option does not seem to be avaialble unless KX_WAVE 0/1 is used).

Sorry, I had not noticed that before or I would have told you.

BTW: You should also be able to play back the file using something like PowerDVD.

No a/52 over spdif option - just mono/stereo/2+2/5.1 - Im guessing this means The Live wont do AC3 pass thru. not too suprisong seeing as its a 4 ch card.

I do not know, but I did notice that the A/52 over SPDIF option isn't avaialble with some kX settings enabled, so I prefer setting it in the preferences to use SPDIF when available. In any case if you play around with it and your A2, you should be able to figure out any quirks with it.

You might try the echo test I mentioned with redocnexk. i.e. just connect Surrounder (set to 5.1 direct path) fL/fR to Asio 1/2 (latency around 16ms works good), and analog front out (obviously with analog speakers connected). Set Windows to use kX_Wave 4/5 and play some Windows sounds and listen for the echo. BTW: I use the ASIO connections on epilog.

There has been a confusion between me and radiocolonel.it. I sent him the version 1.02 by email. I then found out a mistake in the readme and I sent him the updated readme alone and I asked him to include it in the zip file.

He never received the email containing 1.02 so he thought I was talking about 1.01 and he included the readme in 1.01.

BTW, the readme I sent him contained an error. The second -r should have read
-o : output device.

I haven't been in contact with him recently. When we do, he'll put back the correct readme in 1.01 and he'll upload the version 1.02.

Yes, I should have done it in the first place. If I make a version 1.03, I'll add it.

Maddogg6, encoding with the sblive and sending it to the other sound card is only easily possible in 1.02 by using the -o switch. I just posted version 1.02. Give it a try.

Eugene is working on making a kX add-on of redocneXk. I sent him the source code and he is working on it. It will probably have some nice features and I would not be surprised if he made some improvements like showing the available ASIO drivers.

And that is probably a better option than sending it out the SPDIF of the Live, and into the CD_SPDIF In of the A2.

In both setups it is reporting the output device as CT4832 and not the A2. You want it to output it to the A2.

Id image theres extra latencies this way - no matter, nothing I cant compensate for if need be. I was recording in win98 pre-wdm (remember VXD's?? har)

That is pretty much your only choice without AC3 passthru working on the Live! card (and we do not know if AC3 decode works on it either, so...). In any case it is good to know it is working, and that Tril's new -o option is working as well.

It's not 100% perfect so it crashes if you select a device that is not supported. What defines a non supported device, that I'm not sure.

No. There is about as much latency no matter which card you output to.

Think if it this way :
1 - The sound card sends the audio to the cpu.
2 - The cpu does some processing to the audio (encodes to AC3 and encapsulate in SPDIF).
3 - The cpu sends the audio the sound card.

If the soundcard in step 3 is the same as the soundcard in step 1, it's as fast as if the sound card in step 3 is different from the soundcard in step 1.

Don't forget that some sblive cards have a problem with two of the ASIO pins on epilog. You may have to use different ASIO pins.

I believe that is only with 5.1 models (the issue is with Asio 1/2 and the analog Center/LFE outs).

I then found out a mistake in the readme and I sent him the updated readme alone and I asked him to include it in the zip file. He never received the email containing 1.02 so he thought I was talking about 1.01 and he included the readme in 1.01. BTW, the readme I sent him contained an error. The second -r should have read -o : output device. I haven't been in contact with him recently. When we do, he'll put back the correct readme in 1.01 and he'll upload the version 1.02.

I can use the LIVEs ASIO - but output to the A2's wave device? - thus routing through the PCI buss? Cool - works like a champ.. Id image theres extra latencies this way - no matter, nothing I cant compensate for if need be. I was recording in win98 pre-wdm (remember VXD's?? har) I'm a happy camper. Thanks guys -

In any case it is good to know it is working, and that Tril's new -o option is working as well.
