ah thank you for your work
(you have out3 twice) ok with all them set up i put it to 1% that seems to keep it from cutting out even less but it still cuts out and i have my amp at 40 just to have a decent volume. but we are making progress what could make it so i the rear sound comes out the front speakers and sound cuts in and out? |

I am not sure, especially if it does not do it when playing DVD's etc. If it did it all the time, then I would think that maybe there is a problem with your adapter (i.e. maybe not fully inserted or something, etc). I do not know, I cannot think of anything right now (sorry it's late, I need to go to sleep).

well i dont have that many dvds that really show off 5.1, im at college so i dont have that much to play with. it could be that my dvd is playing the rear sounds in the front speakers as well. i just know that when i have powerdvd (with spdif on) playing my amp kicks in to DD or dts, but the file you sent does the same thing but only plays in the front speakers.
my main goal is just to play half life 2 and source games in 5.1 but yea i need to go to bed too |

I meant mainly the fact that the audio does not drop out when playing DVD's, etc (or does it? i.e. when some other sound plays. What happens if you play a DVD (with AC3 passhru) and play an mp3 at the same time? Does it cause any problems?).
The rear sounds playing in the front speakers could just be some setting on the receiver, but I do not know. Have you tried the different sync modes in the ASIO Control panel? Another thing you might try is the following: Disconnect the top 2 inputs into Surrounder. Set Surrounder to 2.0 Surround Mix. Do not connect any of the outputs to ASIO. Load another copy of Surrounder. Connect only the top 2 outputs of xrouting to the top 2 pins of (this instance of) Surrounder. Set this one to 5.1 Movie Mode. Connect fL/fR/sL/sR/Center/LFE to ASIO 0-5. Play audio (stereo only like mp3) using kX Wave 0/1. Turn off AC3 passthru, so that kX does the decoding. Try redocneXk and see how it sounds (any skipping or distortion, etc). Try different latency settings and sync modes in the ASIO Control Panel to see which settings give the best results. Once you figure out which settings work the best, try enabling AC3 passthru and see if it works any better for you. BTW: Try different bitrate settings in redocneXk as well. BTW: Using the GUI version (I cannot test this version) with kX doing the decoding, I find that for the output levels to match the input levels, the volume needs to be at 50% for each channel (and a bitrate of 256000 gives good results for me).

ok, i figured i should see if it could be the amp that is the problem, so i did some simple test like hook up a dvd player to my amp and let it play a DD movie (i got LoTR because it was in the dvd player), and sure enough it played the rear sounds in the front speakers, so after setting it from auto-detect to DD it now plays in the proper speakers, i then tested the file you sent me (in powerDVD with spdif passthru on) and it also plays perfectly.
so the problem with the having no sound in the rear speakers was solved by changing my amp from auto detect to DD with one problem down i am in the middle of trying what you said for it to stop cutting in and out |

ok i sent the vol to the asio0-5 to 50% and set the bitrate on 1.09 (-b 256000) and that to improve it, it doesnt cut out on movies or music that much anymore, just here and there.
i did the sound test in CS:S and they all play in the right speakers. but are the rear speakers suppost to play the same sound as front speakers but quitier? (i.e RR will play the C and R sound too but be louder sound is suppost to come from the RR speaker? also the gui still does nothing and any changes in the asio control panel just makes it crash, all my results are from the 1.09 one |

BTW: Here is a WMA version of that same surround test file: http://www.lynnepublishing.com/surro...round_test.wma You could use it to test with redocneXk if you want. Last edited by Russ; Dec 3, 2007 at 02:17 PM. |

i think your on to something with the what file is playing, some mp3 cut in and out like mad where some others dont at all and its nothing to do with 320kps vs 128kbps where as some avi movies/shows cut in and out like mad and some nothing at all.
the wma file just plays the same sounds in all the speakers. the players i use are Divx, winamp5 and WMP11 |

You should play the WMA file in WMP, and make sure WMP is set to use DirectSound: kX Wave 0/1 (Tools -> Options -> Devices -> Speakers -> Properties).

but one last question, is there a way to make the Xk 1.09 a service of windows so it loads in the background when windows loads? |

Glad to hear it
![]() As for making the program run as a service (or just start with windows): You can add the program to the Startup folder (or Run key in the registry) to have it start automatically when you log on to Windows. Also, I remember a program called srvany.exe that would let any program run as a service. I had used it in the past and it worked good, but I have not tried it recently (and never with WinXP). If I recall correctly it was included as part of one of the Windows resource kits. In any case, you would not want it to run as a service anyway, as a service starts before you log on to Windows, and thus before kxmixer loads and is able to restore it's setting, etc. |

Hi, I'm having problems getting this to work with my Sound Blaster Live! card. I'm not going to hide it; I have no idea what I'm doing. I did the DSP thing and my mixer looks exactly like the one in the picture and I have configured the asio correctly, yet I can't get anything out of it. Can anyone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

Since you are talking about the DSP, that means that you are using the kX drivers. Unfortunately, the kX drivers don't support AC3 passthrough on the live! but I think that the Creative drivers do.

The Creative driver does support AC3 passthru but no ASIO with 10k1 models...

Does that mean I need to get a new sound card? One with Dolby Digital Live maybe?

If this is a priority for you, then I guess so...
I do not know a lot about it, but that would seem to be a good option (if the card offers all of the other features that you want). |

The Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1 and Auzentech X-Meridian 7.1 both support Dolby Digital Live. I don't know of any other soundcard that support that.

redocneXk and Vista on Audigy 4
Hi All -
I have been trying to get redocneXk to work on my Vista Ultimate system. I have an Audigy 4 Pro card - wired to a receiver with both Optical and Coax. I got redocneXk to make my receiver show Digital input with the Creative drivers installed by enabling the "Allow Applications to Take Exclusive Control of This Device" option, however, no programs will output any sound with this enabled. This is obviously because the redocneXk program is exclusively using the driver. With the kX drivers, I've had no succcess either. I followed all of the instructions listed on the first page of this thread, but have had no success. I also tried using redocneXk on my XP installation, and it works fine with the Creative drivers. Any help would be appreciated - Thanks! |

I have been having issues with getting this to work. I am using ASIO4ALL 2.8 in conjunction with redocneXk 1.09. My soundcard is the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook which uses the ExpressCard slot on my Dell laptop. I have this card set as the Windows default using a 5.1 setup. Using default settings for redocneXk this is what happens:

I do not know much about the X-FI nor Vista, but I think that you need to make sure that the X-FI is in Audio Creation Mode. Also, I wonder why you are using ASIO4ALL instead of the Creative ASIO driver (I am not sure if ASIO4ALL can give you more than 2 inputs (maybe with the X-FI, but I am not sure)... and as the error says, you need more than 2 inputs)?

Sorry to hear that... You need one input for each channel of audio (i.e. 5.1 means 6 channels = 6 inputs (and the X-FI mode uses even more)). It seems that you may be out of luck...

ASIO4ALL only gives access to two inputs from the card. You can't get 5.1 sound from that.
There are more than 6 ASIO inputs on the Creative cards other than the X-Fi and on the X-Fi. The inputs numbers redocneXk use go up to number 13 on Creative cards other than X-Fi and up to 9 on X-Fi cards (the numbering starts at 0). See the first few lines of your logs. It shows what input numbers it reads in each case. That's what the error messages are about. It's basically a way to tell you that you are not using the ASIO Creative drivers for which redocneXk is specially built to support. |
