it's an "encoder". for the rest, please, re-read what Tril and Russ have written in their posts - it looks like you're completely mixed up. |

In any case, if you look at the title of this thread: "redocneXk released - Realtime 5.1 ac3 Encoder" --- you will see that, this is an AC3 encoder, not a decoder. |

He is just mixing up the words that's all. We can understand what he means. He need something that will ENCODE surround info to be passed to SPDIF to his receiver for decoding. Yes you will be able to get near realtime encoding. So in short ViRuS2K this software will do exactly what you want. is this correct?

). In any case, as Tril indicated, it should work in the next version, if/when Tril has time to work on it (and provided that there are no unforeseen complications, etc.).

No,no I didn't say you were he was just mixing up a word and gets posts corecting his terminology but no helping with the question...I was just giving him the answer...
Definatley cool though I imagine alot of guys with AUdigy's and X-fi's will be wainting for that. Creative probably reverse engineering Tril's code...lol |

Tril your gonna have Creative labs Phone supoprt guys sending people here to get your application when they call and ask why their X-fi can't do surround over digital. I wouldn't doubt it....

Just tried with mine Realtek HD onboard ALC880 5.10.00.5319, doesn't seems to work.
For ASIO i am using ASIO4ALL v 2.7 and also tried the beta4. For "audio renderer" I tried Directsound and waveout. But with directsound, my receivers sees thw AC3 stream, but no sound. For output device i treid both with no luck (Primary Sound Driver & Realtek HD Audio rear output). The Matrix also shows only the first two lines (0=l &1=r). My system have 7.1 channels, but i only want to use 5.1 through my SPDIF so i can enjoy 5.1 audio when like playing games. The system i use: XPsp2, Shuttle ST20G5, onboard Realtek HD X2 4600+ - 2GB ram |

It won't work with ASIO4ALL because it only supports two inputs.
About the new version, it's coming along and ViRuS2k is helping me fix the bugs related to the X-Fi. I found a bug in the program that seems to be the main cause of why it was necessary to run at Realtime priority. It may not be necessary in future versions to run the program at Realtime priority. |

Hi.
First of all, I'd like to thank you for your excellent results with this software. I have hooked my HTPC (E6300 with Audigy 2 Platinum) to an 7.1 A/V receptor and a 7.1 speaker set (2*Wharfedale Diamond 9.4, 5*9.0 + SW150). Using the latest GUI version and creative drivers I configured the drivers to 6.1 speaker system. I started the encoding and I must say that the Dolby Digital EX encoding is working flawless as far as channel separation concerns. My system is cleary detecting all the 6 positional sources (right, front, left, surround left, surround right and surround back). However, during games I hear a lot of cracking and distortion coming from the speakers, specially when effects like explosions and crashes happen during games. This doesn't happen when the system is passing-through a Dolby Digital or DTS source from a DVD, so I assume it's not related to the receiver's calibration. I have researched a little bit and found out that the people using the Asus P5B motherboard with DTS Connect (same as DD Live but with DTS) used to have a comparable problem. They solved it by changing the speaker size option in the DTS Connect control panel. Could this be the issue behind the distortion on home theatre setups? Is it possible to add this option to redocneXk in future versions? Thank you. |

Here's an update on the status for the X-Fi. I can't get it to work perfectly on the X-Fi. There are a few problems.
The receiver flickers on and off of Dolby Digital mode. I haven't been able to pinpoint the link in the chain that is the source of the problem. That's a big problem because it makes using redocneXk on the X-Fi unusable. It does not work in game mode (it works in entertainment mode and audio creation mode). That's probably because of the Creative drivers. The source of the audio is WUH (What U Hear) and it seems that WUH does not work in game mode even thought the specifications say that it does. That means that you can't use EAX with redocneXk on an X-Fi because EAX only works in game mode. |

Hey Tril, that's too bad I've been looking forward to trying it out on an X-Fi.
Did you try unchecking "Enable Digital IO" from Play Control -> Advanced? It's not required for output. Try both 48 and 96 KHz output? Game Mode is required for BF2, at least. But EAX effects themselves are also available in other modes as shown in the Audio Console. |

We have also resolved GAME MODE !
we now have EAX 3.0 4.0 and 5.0 includeing OpenAL !.... 5.1 Digital though SPDIF in games and movies that arent AC3 Format is now possible includeing Full EAX Functionality with Openal to ..... stay tuned.

Hi.
After much messing around, I have now got this working perfectly on my system. Audigy 4 (SB0610) Creative Drivers (KX drivers do not work and the ac3 passthrough doesn't work anyay) I made a breakout box up with a 4pin 3.5m, Jack plug and an RCA socket. The tip of the jack wired to SPDIF+, the sleeve (pin 4) wired to ground. I had no surround sound (spdif working in stereo ok though), but the dolby digital light was being activated on my amp, so a signal was present. Eventually I worked out it was the latency setting on the Creative ASIO driver. The default of 50ms does not work, I adjusted it to 7ms, and hey presto, perfect 5.1 sound. So to clarify, the settings I have are: Default creative matrix Asio driver : Creative ASIO Bitrate : 640000 Renderer : Waveout Output device : SB Audigy4 [BC00] ASIO Latency : 7ms Hope this helps anyone who is having problems. p.s tested this with Half Life 2 and surround is coming out of all speakers (5.1)correctly, dolby trailers and ac3 movies all work perfectly as well. Cheers Guys! |

Just to add, my hardware specs are:
Core 2 Duo E6600 running at 3.6ghz (1.2ghz overclock, 2.4ghz stock) P5B-E Motherboard 2Gb Corsair XMS2 DDR Ram I don't have any noticeable latency due to the speed of the cpu. |

New version released. It is version 1.05.
Sorry for the long wait. Many changes were done and it took some time to get it working on the X-Fi. I'll explain some of the new stuff. I added X-Fi sound card support on the Creative drivers. You have to thank MiG[Anubis and ViRuS2k for helping me get it to work. There are two things to do on the X-Fi to get it to work : - Reduce the WAVE volume of the sound mixer in Windows until you don't hear any hard clipping. - Change the recording source to "What you Hear" (WUH) in the Creative console. You also need to lower the ASIO latency under 50ms. An X-Fi user reported 20 ms to work well. I'll make a tool to do that later but for now you can use ASIO caps. There is a new switch called mode (-m). It selects the correct ASIO inputs for the card and drivers that you use. It also selects the matrix that will be used on the Creative drivers. There is an auto-detection implemented that should always work if there are not any bugs so you normally won't need to use the -m switch. There is a new switch called priority (-p). It selects the priority of the program. It still runs on realtime priority to prevent any stuttering but it may work on lower a latency. There is a new switch called latency (-l). It does not actually control latency but increasing it will increase the latency. It controls how much to fill the audio buffer before starting to encode it. The default value is 1, for one time the ASIO buffer size. It can go from 1 to 4. A setting of 1 will offer the lowest overall latency. It works fine on my SB Live!. An X-Fi user reported to me that a setting of 1 caused stuttering on its X-Fi. So users experiencing stuttering that does not get fixed by changing the ASIO latency may need to use values from 2 to 4. More detailled information is found in the readme.txt file. Changelog version 1.05 - Changed the title of the window to the program's name. - Changed the code that manages the switches. This makes it easier and faster to add new switches. - Added -m switch. - Added -p switch. - Added -l switch. - Removed -f switch. - Removed -i switch. - Removed a few memory leaks. - Added a condition that stops the execution, instead of crashing, if not enough ASIO inputs are available. - Added X-Fi support. - Added basic 24 bits support (low quality conversion from 24 bit to 16 bit, the WAVE volume of the sound mixer in Windows needs to be reduced or else there will be hard clipping) - Removed the display of the number of available ASIO outputs and of the output latency because they are not needed. - Removed all the bitrates that were too low for encoding six channels. - Changed a little the way the program handled the encoding. It seems like Realtime priority is no longer absolutely necessary but it is still used because there is still some stuttering without it. priority is used instead. - Added basic autodetection of the ASIO Driver. For now, what it does is select the second ASIO driver if you don't use the -d switch and if the first driver is ASIO4ALL. The reason is that it only supports 2 ASIO inputs. - Added a message to display if ASIO driver initialization fails. - Moved from ffmpeg CVS release 20041113 to the SVN release of 20061205. There is a new dll called avutil-49.dll because of changes in the code of ffmpeg. Last edited by Tril; Dec 6, 2006 at 04:27 AM. Reason: To mention the great help of MiG[Anubis and ViRuS2k |

Hi there,
I have a small question about encoded signal routing. I am using Audigy2 ZS with kx3538l. As I understand the encoded signal will not be affected by any changes in DSP routes (epilog analog outputs at least) including switches "Toggle 'Swap Front and Rear' mode" and "Toggle 'Route headphones to Center/Subwoofer' mode". I mean the channels on my digital receiver will not be swapped during the checking/unchecking that toggle modes. So I will be able to have stereo sound in my headphones plugged to the Center/Subwoofer the same time I have correct 5.1 in my receiver. Am I right here? Thanks. P.S. I am asking because I don't have digital receiver yet. I need to clarify some before buying it. |

Yes. To use redocneXk with the kX drivers you route the audio to asio 0 to asio 5 and this is not affected by these two toggle switches on the mixer.

Thanks for the great work folks!
Got a bit of a problem, though. I'm using the 1.05 with my x-fi card and ASIO Caps is kinda pooping out on me. Every time I start the thing, it just dies immediately. So adjusting the latency is out of the question. Are there any other tools out there to do it? Or do the creative drivers themselves have an ansio control panel hidden somewhere? Already performed a clean install of my system tonight, but to no avail. (Or should I just wait for the tool you're gonna throw at us eventually?) |

I just found out about this great tool. Thank you! It's exactly what I needed! It works perfectly in every game I tried. Sure it eats up 5-10% cpu but I don't think it really slows down anything. The only other alternative would have been to buy a dolby digital live sound card.

I've had several Dolby Live cards (soundstorm on a previous motherboard, an Aureon 7.1 and recently a Realtek HD chip on my P5W DH motherboard), none of them go beyond EAX2. Some games realy need a higher version to even give you more than 2 speakers. Well, BF2142 does at least.
There's no comparison
