Installation failure - now have no audio - please help!
I have tried installing the KX drivers and now have no audio at all.
System: Win98SE, Soundcard: SB Live.
I unzipped the kxdrv3526.zip and libs.zip to a new KX folder, together with the Win98SE fix file, which I ran first.
At the end of the install procedure I had two windows up simultaneously - one asking me to reboot, the other to put in the Windows 98 CD. I rebooted. The reboot failed - the PC hung after the wallpaper was loaded. With Ctrl-Alt-Del it said two things were active - Explorer and Rundll32. I cancelled rundll32 and the reboot continued, but it said 'a required file, MCC42.dll, was not found. I copied the three dlls from the KX folder to Windows system and rebooted.
This time I didn't have the rundll32 problem, but I got a message 'error initialising your audio card'. I tried to play a WAV and an MP3 in Winamp. Both times, it failed and said 'Specifed format cannot be translated or supported'. I tried Cubase. I got an error message 'ASIO MME driver. An active audio port could not be found. Error code FE I E 0600.', then 'Not enough memory for the audio engine'.
I tried the KX mixer. It said 'If you haven't rebooted do so now, if KX install is running please ignore'.
I rebooted again. Windows seemed to pick up the new drivers for the soundcard, and at one point I had to direct it to the KX folder, which was OK.
But when I tried Winamp and Cubase again, I got the same error messages. I rebooted again and got the same rundll32 error as before.
I'm now without audio so I hope I can get rid of the KX files and get back to Creative's drivers as I need to work on some music today. I can't run 'kxsetup --clean' as in the FAQ - it's not recognised, nor is there a kx drivers entry or group anywhere in my start menu.
I'd like to try KX again if you can give me an indication of what I've done wrong.

Thanks for replying so quickly, I'll try again this afternoon.
But in the page you link to, setup.htm, I can't see any mention of extracting the libs to windows/system. Where's that? (I'll do it anyway). It also mentions, for uninstalling, going to Start Menu/Programs/kX Audio Driver select Uninstall kX Software.
I've tried the installation three times now, and this has never appeared. Could my virus scanner (MacAfee) cause the KX install program to lose control when rebooting?

Finally got it installed, with your advice and the help of my son. Working ok in Cubase, but realised the change in sampling rate means I can't use it for existing songs. Created new songs using VSTi's with v little latency - great!
It seems I can switch back to ASIO multimedia driver to work on the old songs, and that's OK. Is that normal practice?

I'm having the same problem with the latest official 34 package. I 've installed it too many times and even though windows don't hang at startup, I get the same message everytime, "error initialising your audio card etc. " I suppose the libs install themselves. I even tried copying all the files from system 32 to the system folder. any suggestions?
ps. no antivirus running

HI
I HAD A BUG LIKE THIS, SAME ERROR MESSAGE SINCE 3534A VERSION, 26 JUNE 03
I finally succeeded to install 3535 with a small utility called debugview, Max and Eugene advices.
It seems like kx3534 and 3535 don't uninstall correctly previous versions and try to install latest drivers with 3533 libs that were not unistalled
See my previous thread to see if you're concerned (it looks like)
Personal bug since 3534a
Hope it helps you

1. 352x versions are outdated. please uses 3534 or 3535 releases
2. if you install a -previous- version above a more recent one, you will 100% get an error
you should uninstall the more recent version -completely- before installing any previous release
(by clicking ' Remove' in the kX Setup window)
