Just like the title states, my Live! model SB0100 has problems in Sonar (4). Everything works fine and dandy with it until I try to use a VST/DXi instrument. Any virtual instrument I use has a terrible distortion on it and lags horribly. There's something probably close to a full second delay between the time I place a note in the piano roll editor and the time it actually plays.
Strangely enough, the midi synths on the card work fine. Playing back midi files works fine. Sending and receiving of midi signals is fine (though I'm using a USB interface instead of the joystick port on the card). However, even though my Korg can send and receive signals perfectly, the recording through the SB Live is not working right at all. All sound coming in is distorted (just like the VST instruments, only worse), and it gradually falls behind with the recording. This happens even if I'm not recording anything; I just prep some random audio track and hit record (with no input set and nothing playing) and I can still see it falling behind (the line representing the sound gets farther and farther away from the position cursor). By the end of a 3 minute song, it is more than a few measures behind the actual position. I fixed this before somehow, but spyware took over my PC and I was forced to re-install Windows after cleaning it up (some vital files got nerfed and my desktop was screwed up, not to mention the annoying little icon in my taskbar saying "Click here to download our spyware remover because Windows will probably not boot next time!!!!1!11!11!!"). After doing so, all of my hardware had to re-install itself and when the sound card re-installed itself my accidental fix was gone. The only clue I have to the fix was that I was doing crazy stuff with the drivers. It was really a fluke that I got it to work in the first place, and I got so used to it working that I forgot how I fixed it . This problem occurs with the Creative Drivers and the kX drivers. One thing I've noticed is that it always finds the card as a "SB0101", but on the card itself it says "SB0100". Again, both the Creative and the kX drivers do this. Because of that I've been trying crazy driver things again (that's how I came across kX in the first place) but this time to no avail. What I've tried: Setting the sample rate to 48000khz in Sonar Completely uninstalling and reinstalling both the Creative and kX drivers Mixing the two drivers (causes some interesting sound problems) Applying completely stupid and unrelated drivers to the card (I tried Win9x drivers but those wouldn't install) Downgrading and then upgrading and then downgrading again with the CL drivers Using the standard WinXP drivers and then the UniPack and then the kX drivers and then back again Causing myself several auto-reboots trying to install the LiveDrvPatch that doesn't even apply to me (but hey, it might've worked?) Making sure the card itself was physically fit into the slot correctly Taking out and replacing the card Messing around with several kX settings that caused sound to simply stop altogether System Specs: hp Pavilion 775e AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (2.16 ghz) 512 MB RAM 70 gb HD nVidia GeForce FX 5200 AGP SB Live! Model SB0100 (came w/the comp) WinXP Home w/SP2 Using Sonar 4 Producer Edition I'm not exactly sure what kind of Mobo, but I think nVidia nForce2 Creative Drivers: The LiveDrvUniPack, whatever ones came with WinXP (dated 1/2003) kX Drivers: The newest ones (as of today, anyway) I've reverted back to the Creative Drivers simply because kX was causing some strange quirks like my sound dying for a bit and then making weird noises as I hit the Volume Control-thing's slider (it's supposed to make the Windows "ding!" sound). Seemed to me as though I just had to work the kinks out of it using that method, but being that the SONAR problem wasn't remedied with the kX drivers it was enough to make me reinstall the CL drivers. Anyway, I think I've told you everything I possibly can, lol. Any ideas? |
