Mouse crash problems

Hi Folks

Has anyone got any suggestions? I started using KX drivers for my Audigy 2 Platinum Ex because my PC kept crashing in Cubase 5.1 but it hasn't helped: I've also (deep breath) upgraded the PS, bought new RAM, converted from Windows 98 SE to XP, shut down all unnecessary services in XP, disabled stuff I don't need like parallel ports, modem and ethernet connection, and sworn a lot. But it still crashes really regularly, seemingly when I've done a lot of mouse movements - editing MIDI, in Wavelab or even just clicking on the screen to move a parameter. I've spent a YEAR trying to get the system to work well enough to get more than 15 minutes work in before I have to reboot....any ideas? Please please please!!!!!

sounds like a faulty motherboard... or processor; you say that when you are clicking alot it crashes, could this be because you are using the processor more when you are clicking alot (the clicking itself doesnt use hardly any processor but what you are clicking on may be) so, if you are using alot of cpu power and you are crashing it could also be a heat issue (your heatsync cant get rid of the heat fast enough) make sure no fans have burned out... thats all i can think of right now good luck!

or you could buy a new computer... (trade it in if still under warrenty)

Try a different mouse if you haven't already. Otherwise, it sounds like, as Chester01 said, something is near death on with your computer.

Thanks for the input fellas - advice from the land of the Prairie Home Companion always welcome - I have tried different mices so it ain't that - but I have thought about heat before. Recently fitted a second fan cos it was running pretty warm (65 C plus) after being on a while but it also seems to crash sometimes soon after switching on when its only 45 C or so. Still, the data could be wrong - I'm wondering if the heatsink I put on isn't big enough. That's the trouble - built it meself! Never again.......

I know this problem, or at least a similar one. My old computer started to crash when I moved it to another apartment. I thought there were software conflicts, so I reinstalled OP, or - changed from W98 to W2000. The problem remained. I switched OP lots of times but the problem stayed.
I bought a new computer and for some reason kept the old one and when my gf wanted to use it some months later I warned her about the problem. She started it and since then it works perfectly and has been working for about one year.

I'm not saying you should give the computer to a girlfriend even though I can see no other logical reason for it to suddenly work again.
I'd go for a software conflict.

Hmm....maybe its female hormones...nah. I have found two other possible problems. that's just it, there's always summat else to try....for one thing, i read elsewhere on the site that AMD CPUs don't like Radeon graphics cards (both of which I've got) and the combination is often unstable. Also, the specific way I get crashes sounds a lot like something fixed in XP SP2 to do with clicking on menus within programs causing crashes. But I still reckon it's heat like the guys said: having built the thing, its dawned on me i've recycled an old heatsink and its maybe not big enough for a more up to date CPU. D'oh........

mmm that post is a year old - there have been at least 12 driver updates then

and still, i have never seen such a thing posted by anyone else before� if you would like the opinion of some more experienced members post in either the tech discussion forum or radeon graphics cards forum here on DH

EDIT: i should add that i have a Radeon 9600se with an AMD Athlon XP
