Is Soundmax necessary?

Hi

I wondered whether someone could tell me whether soundmax is necessary on my machine and now that i've uninstalled it, how do I stop it from searching for new hardware everytime I restart?

I just upgraded to KX and so far so good .

Thanks

I do not follow what you are saying.

I assume what you mean is that you were running onboard sound circuitry designed by Soundmax (www.soundmax.com). Therefore you were running their drivers. Now you are running a Creative Soundblaster Card (Since the kX project is drivers for the EMU10k chipset, IIRC only Creative owns this circuitry design and as such is the only one to use it)

Given that this understanding is correct all you should need to do is disable the onboard sound in your BIOS. look for On-Board Peripheral or something similar in the advanced section of you BIOS.

to enter the BIOS you may have to push the Delete or F2 key during the POST (Power On Self Test)

Thanks

Yeah I think you're right. I didn't really know what the soundmax drivers were for. Am i right to assume they belong to the secondary soundcard that came with my machine and now i have an audigy 2 platinum, i don't need them anymore?

Anyway, is there any other way to disable other that through bios? I really don't think i've got the skills.

thanks

System Specs

its a simple operation in the bios
go to the chipset features menu

Ok i'll try that. So its not the same if i disable it in device manager then? That seems to have worked.

That does work, but does not release whatever Resources the device might use, and is not recommended by most computer people. (myself included) However if you want to leave it like that go right ahead it is your computer after all.
