There is a little bit of a learning curve as it is different from what we are all used to after using Windows for a long time. I think the best thing to do is as follows: Once you have it working, save your configuration (so it can be restored later if you mess something up, and are not sure how to fix it), and then play around with the settings, as that is the best way to figure out how everything works. Once you get over that first little hump, you begin to see how everything works in kX, and then can start modifying your configs with confidence. Additionally, the best settings often depend on your system, your speakers, and your personal preference, etc, so often the only way to determine the best settings, is to figure them out for yourself (trial and error).

Thank you, your plugin works perfect. All outputs works (analog).
Card HAS AC97 codec
Codec name: Unk AC97-codec [83847658]
3D Extension: SigmaTel 3D Enhancement
Model: SBLive, 0229, OEM.
KX v3538
But I can't use kx mixer (master volume etc.) and windows mixer (master volume). But It's detail for me, I use DSP :-)

Glad it works for you. Regarding the volume stuff. The master volume (and many of the other volume controls) in kxmixer is part of epilog, so they are not something I could use as part of the plugin. However my original test plugin was linked with the Windows Mixer, and thus you could adjust the Master Volume though the Windows Mixer and via volume/mutlimedia keys on the keyboard. It worked, but unfortunately there was a bug that I haven't been able to track down as of yet, that would occasionally cause kxmixer to crash, thus I removed that code from the version available for download. 3538i is not far off, and once it is available, you should no longer need my test plugin, and should be able to use epilog directly, and thus be able to control the volume(s) though kxmixer.

I noticed a small error in my test plugin (the one that included basic volume controls). It would have probably only affected the LiveDrive headphones connection (which I do not think is even used on any of these cards), but I fixed the code and put the fixed version on the download page. (I accidentally used KX_OUT(0x6) twice, rather than KX_OUT(0x6) and KX_OUT(0x7), for those connections, thus you would be missing the left channel (the right channel would be played in the left speaker), and you would have no signal in the right speaker (again, only with the Livedrive headphones connections, but I am not sure if having had the same physical output used twice, might cause some other side affects (I hadn't noticed any myself))). If anyone is using the test plugin that incluced basic volume controls, then you might want to download the fixed version.

Using creative drivers everything works including D00 5.1 dolby digital from a single spdif connection (Orange jack -- No creative special connectors).
Using kx 3537 analog is fine. though there is no spdif output (D00 and/or spdif selection has no effect).
Using 3538h 6 channel wave test: center/lfe ALWAYS on "center" plays in rear left speaker (even if dsp has epilog as the only loaded plugin). FL/FR speakers are ok. D00 works but only 2 channel FL/FR output.

Will AC3 passthrough for sb022x be implemented in 3538 final?
Keep up the great work!!

@manfred

What speaker setup are you using to test Analog Sound? Make sure 'Swap Front & Rear' is not anabled, as the Rear speaker problem will make it appear as if you have no sound at all using that option. You may want to try using my test plugin instead of epilog (at least until 3538i comes out), and make sure that you are using 3538h, as it is the only version (currently) that automatically enables the rear channels on these cards.

Hey if anyone is having trouble getting the right drivers for their SB0220 for XP, I've found my installation CD and now have working drivers for my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital, I used the KX drivers but the rear channels would not work no matter what I did, these drivers work perfectly, if anyone is having these problems, or gets errors like "could not detect any sound blaster card on your system" when trying drivers from Creative Labs, then email me at vxmonaro@hotmail.com and I'll arrange to send you the drivers

seems as if there's no hope for me.
No rear/center for me still but i do have lfe.
When i try the center chan in speaker test the sounds plays in 1 speaker in the rear(the left).

Think there might be a work around?
OH, and also...Russ's plugin didnt help me either back in previous 3538's.
But all is well in 3537...but i want 3538 so im going to fiddle with it alot.

Sorry for double post in seperate threads but i just wanted to make sure my prob was shown.

EDIT: Actually its just the rear speakers...
The center, front, and LFE are fine.
I still get the center sound in the left rear tho.
I really want to keep this version of KX its nice..http://www.driverheaven.net/images/s...big%20grin.gif

Hmm, I do not know of any reason why your card would have problems. I think it should have worked all along (and you did indicate that it did work previously with 3537). Please double check you physical speaker connections, and ensure that they are plugged into the correct jacks (as it sounds like you might have the rear speakers plugged into the center/lfe?).
I think that with that card you would want to use the following setup:

"Swap Front and Rear" enabled.
Rear Speakers connected to Front Jack. (probably Green)
Front Speakers connected to Rear jack. (probably Black)
Center/Subwoofer connected to Center/LFE jack. (probably Orange)
Surrounder set to 5.1.

Double check all of the above, and if you do not understand something, feel free to say so.

I understand everything and my setup is like that.
My rear speakers are plugged into the right jack.
The sound from the center chan is just bleeding to the rear left speaker.
I connected the rear output to the peak plugin to see if was emitting sound and it is...but it's just not getting to my speakers.
Im comfortable with KX and i know how to work a lot of the stuff..
I dont know what it could be.

Hmm, did you try swapping the speakers to see if maybe it is a speaker problem?

<EDIT> Actually, never mind, I forgot that you said that it still works right with 3537.

I am sorry, I cannot think of any reason why your card would work with 3537 and not 3538. Only the developers would know the specific changes that were made with the 3538 versions, that could be related to your problem. I still think it is strange that your serial number seems to indicate that you have an SB0228, which happens to be the same model I have, but my card has different hardware than yours. Hopefully, the kX dev guys can offer up some things for you to try.

You might have noticed that I had removed my test plugins from my download page, as I had thought that they would no longer be necessary. Since some people (who were using them) seem to still be having some issues with the rear channels, I put them back on my download page, and also added 3538i versions.

http://www.geocities.com/russell_garber/plug.html

-Russ

BTW: My hope with the 3538i versions is that people (with STAC9758/Unk AC97-codec [83847658]), who are having problems with 3538i, will be able to use the test plugins, until they can figure out why 3538i is not woking for them (without having to keep reinstalling different versions to test). Let me know if they still work for you in 3538i (they still work for me, but 3538i works for me without any problems). I also added .reg files to unregister these plugins when they are no longer needed (near the bottom of the page). Just double click the .reg file to unregister the plugin (and then you can delete the plugin if you no longer need it).

@mistan, just out of curiousity, if you open up the 'kX Console' and type the following commands, what do you get:

"gptr 5f 0" <ENTER>
If the above says 'PTR[reg=5f; ch=0]=33', then try typing: "sptr 5f 0 30" <ENTER>

"gac97 36" <ENTER>
If the above does not say 'AC97[reg=36]=0', then try typing "sac97 36 0" <ENTER>

"gac97 38" <ENTER>
If the above does not say 'AC97[reg=38]=0', then try typing "sac97 38 0" <ENTER>

Type "quit" <ENTER> to close the console.

Yeah, I didn't expect much, I was just trying to think of something that I know is different between 3537 and 3538h/i, and I wasn't sure if the register change (5f 0 changed from 30 to 33) was done for all SB022x cards, or only those with the single 6 channel codec (and if such a change on the cards that do not need it, would have an adverse effect, etc).

I have no sound from rear output (center is okay) with any kx drivers(nor 3538i with the SB22X compatibility hack on or Creative ones on XP x64 ) out of the box. However, 3538g (and probably h, did not try them) and earlier work great with a hack, if I recall correctly, I've found in this thread:

1)Batch file issuing these commands in kx console:
gptr 7f 0
sptr 7f 0 33
2)A dsp route:
Surrounder+ sL/sR -> x4 -> epiloglt_k1 out13 & out14

However these routes are never saved into the preset so I have to redo them after each reboot (though the plugins load).

My card info:

Yes, your card is one of the SB022x cards that is effected by this problem.
Versions prior to 3538h did not have the rear channels enabled for these cards, so you would need to use the workaround that you mentioned with those versions. With 3538h, you do not need to use that workaround (the rear channels are enabled), but epilog does not the have necessary outputs for these cards, so you would need to use an alternate output plugin that includes these outputs, like T22X58O (also mentioned in this thread).

3538i added the necessary output to epilog, but the driver does a translation only for those cards that need it, and there appears to be a bug where it mis-detects some of the cards, and ends up not doing the necessary translation for some that need it, and doing for others that do not need it (see the 3538i bug eports thread). The only way I know of to see if you card will work with 3538i is to try it out see, and if you discover that it does not work (which appears to be the case for you), then your best bet is to stick with 3538h and use one of the T22X580 plugins.

Thanks for the tip, 3538h + the T22X58O plugin work like a charm, I don't need to mess around with the DSP manager after a reboot.

Any news of a neew version of the driver ?

I still use version 3538i driver with old file kx.sys from 3538h, because with the new 3538i, I do not get any sound on any speaker. I have SB0240 10k2, and CT4832.
The problem is that on 3538h, I can not set low latency, but with this modified I ca use ASIO with 4,35 latency perfectly on m2, without any scrach on the sound.
I worked with midis with soundfonts, and an Yamaha CS2X also on Sonar 5, and was OK.
Also I used it in games like NFS Most Wanted and others and worked perfectly. I didn't had any problems with this moded version but I only miss the Dynamic Processor.

I was just wondering, if there will be a newer driver comaptible with the old Dynamic Processor 4.0 or a comaptible Dynamic Processor with 3538i.

3538i does come with Dynamics Processor 4, and you also have the new plugins: e-Compressor/e-Compressor Lite available through the forum.
