Ok, it says that you have the STAC9708 codec. Every report I have seen from users with similair models, shows that you should not have any problems with your Rear channels, and should not have to do anything special to get it to work. The default DSP setup (with epilog) should work for you (set Surrounder to 5.1 and enable Bass redirection, and set your Bass Split Frequency to your desired value). What happens when you try the speaker test (with the default DSP setup)? Have you confirmed that your Rear speakers work (try swapping the front and rear phsyical plugs on soundcard)?

Hmm, my plugin uses the same physical outputs as epilog with the exception of the rear speakers, so there shouldn't be any difference with the Front or Center speakers, and I would expect that the rear speakers would not work with my plugin and your sound card. My plugin does ignore some of the settings in lX Mixer that do not apply to my card (i.e. swap front and rear, and route headphones to Center/Subwoofer, etc), so maybe something is not set right in kX Mixer.
Anyone that has a sb022x model and STAC9708 have any suggetions for mistan? |

mistan, is your card an OEM card (bundled with your computer) or did you buy it retail (retail boxed)?

If it came in a retail box, it is probably a retail card. If you still have the box (or have the serial number off the card), the serial number could tell exactly which model card you have.
In your other thread (regarding Bass redirection) you indicated that the speaker test works correctly, but here you say that your rear speakers do not work, so I am confused. |

Using 3537 (if you did not allready install 3538 again), try the following: START -> RUN -> kxctrl --gui <ENTER> In the console Window that opens type: gptr 5f 0 <ENTER> Note what it says ( will say something like: PTR[reg=5f; ch=0]=30 ) Type quit to close the console window. Next time you install 3538, try the same thing and see if it is the same result. If it is not the same as with 3537, try typing: sptr 5f 0 x <ENTER> (where "x" is the value that you got using 3537, i.e. 30 in the above example: sptr 5f 0 30) Quote:

@Vradash
Did you try connecting your rear speakers to out 13/14 of epiloglt_k1 (epilog and epiloglt_k1 loaded at the same time, and only rear channels connected to epiloglt_k1) as described in the first post of this thread? It looks as though you have the STAC9758 codec, so I think the above test, or my test plugin should work for you. |

Ok, I see from the info you posted, that you are using kX 3538, but it does not tell me which 3538 version you are using. If it is not 3538h, then you will have to enable the rear channels manually (as described in the first post of this thread).

@mistan, is your problem related to all 3538 versions? I would think that it would only be with 3538h, and as such you should be able to use previous 3538 versions without problems.

I added a 6 channel test .wav to the page where my test plugin is located, so that people can test thier speakers (in 5.1 mode) from a playback source (like Windows Media Player 10) in addition to the speaker test page of kX Mixer.

Ok, thanks for the info. That helps because I wanted a confirmation from someone with a sb022x card with STAC9708, using 3538h successfully (no problems with rear channels) to try and determine if the problem mistan is having is unique to his setup, etc.

That would be my guess. If you decide to try 3538 again, first make sure all your speakers are working properly in 3537, then take note of your Surrounder+ settings, the various volume levels, and any settings on the main mixer page (swap front and rear option, etc), and then make sure you use the same settings after installing 3538 (you may want to install all the 3538 versions one at a time (3538c, then 3538g, then 3538h), and retest your speakers after each installation to make sure everything is still working before moving on to the next version.

I Install 3538h following steps for new users and I got no rear sound. I got Creative Soundblaster Cambridge Works 4.1 Speakers and I only hear rear and subwoofer unless I unmark the swap rear mode and then I hear only front and subwoofer. If I install creative drivers It says i got no compatible sound card. Im using XP with SP2 integrated. Please help me and thanxs in advanced.

What Creative drivers did you try to install? i.e. Where they on the installation CD that came with your sound card (or were they something that you downloaded)? You should really make sure that your card works properly using the drivers that were written specifically for that card before trying alternate drivers. Aside from that, it sounds like your rear speakers work fine and it is just a configuration issue. On the kxmixer Master page, go into speaker setup and change the settings to 4.1 speaker mode, and enable surround, etc, then use the speaker test to test your speakers.

BTW: When the Creative drivers will not install (i.e. it reports that it did not detect your card), it usually means one of the following.
1) You are trying to install the wrong driver for your card (most likely if you are not using your original installation cd to install the drivers). The are many SB Live! models and many of them have there own specific drivers, especially if it is an OEM model (i.e. none of the drivers currently available from Creative's website work with my (Creative retail) sound card, thus I can only use the installation cd that came with the card if I want to use the Creative drivers). 2) You are trying to install a driver update without first installing the base driver package. 3) Your card is not seated properly in the PCI slot. 4) You have a hardware conflict with some other hardware that is installed on your system. 5) You have some software/driver conflict (remnants of an old driver, etc). 6) Your hardware is defective. |

Since it sounds like 3538i is not far off, and this thread has gotten long, I thought I would summarize a bit...
As far as I can tell, only the sb022x cards with the STAC9758 chip (Unk AC97-codec [83847658] as reported by kX) have the problem with the rear speakers, and these cards use KX_OUT(0xd) and KX_OUT(0xe) for the rear chennels. It seems that any reported problems with the rear speakers from users with a different AC97 chip are mis-configuration issues (although I cannot be 100% sure of this). Using epiloglt_k1 and epilog at the same time is not a good solution, as it causes unwanted side efects (sound bleeding issues related to Send C and Send D settings, and connections not lasting through a reboot). These side effects do not appear to be present when using a custom version of epilog (identical to epilog with the exception of the rear chennels be changed to KX_OUT(0xd) and KX_OUT(0xe)), so these issues are most likely related to a conflict caused by using epiloglt_k1 and epilog at the same time. It also seems that the function of 2 of the AC97 registers (36h and 38h) on these cards, are swapped from what they are used for on other cards (their descriptions also appear to be swapped in the STAC9758 datasheet (which mysteriously seems to no longer be available from the Sigmatel website)). This is based on my own testing as I have had no verifications from other users regarding these AC97 registers. AC97 Register 36h should be Center/LFE Volume and AC97 Register 38h should be Surround Volume. However, if I write 0x8080 to AC97 register 36h, it mutes the Surround Channels, and if I write 0x8080 to AC97 register 38h, it mutes the Center/LFE channels. DOO mode: I am not completley sure how DOO mode is supposed to function when analog speakers are connected, but something does not seem right with it. When I enable DOO mode, the analog Front speakers are muted, but the analog Rear speakers still function normally (probably due to AC97 36h and 38h appearing to be reversed), and I hear static (buzz) and music (when playing music) in the analog Center/LFE speakers (appears to be from the connection (fL and fR) to KX_OUT(0x2) and KX_OUT(0x3)). Again, I am not completely sure how it should function when using analog speakers, but I would guess that it would mute all the analog connections (the DACS), and thus I should get no sound at all. As far as the digital connections (in general) are concerned, I was unable to test these, as I do not have digital speakers, and I have not seen any reports indicating one way or another, the functionality of kX and the digital connections on these cards, so I am unable to offer any information on this. I think that pretty much summarizes all the I have found out about this issue. -Russ |

Russ: thanks. I've added a workaround that should incorporate your findings -- please check 3538i when it is out and let me know. Make sure to reset your ac97 and DSP settings to be 100% sure the driver initializes your card correctly (uninstall kX completely, clear driver's registry key and do a cold reboot for the card to clear any existing ac97 registers before installing 3538i).

I get stuck at the DSP Thingy, too. I think its too hard for the most people. Cant it be done by console commands?
EDIT#1:looool It was so easy. Just the Console command and then in the Router i just had to set at Wave 0/1 the volume of 13/14 up. omfg Why i didnґt get it before?
