Okay, just before you read too far, yes I'm aware there are many, many queries on here about mic setups, but I've followed all of the advice in those and I'm still having problems.
So here are the basics:
Audigy 1, with 5.1 speakers (switched off) and a mic/headphone set. I have been trying to get the mic to to work with Counter-strike: Source, which I've now managed, but I'm getting feedback trouble.
First of all, I followed the quick start guide for setting up the mic, which worked, but it left me hearing anything said on the mic all the time.
So I searched these forums and found the advice to mute the mic output, which I've done and that solved that.
So I went back to CS and found when I test the mic there I get a certain amount of feedback (what I say into the mic I hear repeating over and over like an echo getting softer).
While many would suggest it might be the mic picking up the sound, please bare in mind this is only headphones and mic, so it shouldn't really pick it up, also with the exact same setup, I didn't not ever have any feedback problems using creative drivers. (Though I had many other problems with did prompt the move to kX drivers, which apart from the mic troubles I've found great.)
So I tried these forums again, and I found the advice about disconnecting the AC 97 and linking it directly from the prolog to the epilog in the DSP, but nothing changed. Then I tried disconnecting the AC 97 from everything and leaving it un-connected, still no change when I run the CS mic test.
At this point, I'm out of ideas. While the echoing isn't too bad, I'd rather not leave it and head into game using voice, as CS crowds are often not too forgiving for such distractions to their playing.
Any suggestions anyone might have would be appreciated.
Many thanks.
