live drivers vs kx

hi, i know this must have been asked a billion times.
but i wanted to know which would be the best
driver of choice for me. i dont play games much,
probably the only game i play is cs. i watch a lot
of movies, anime, listen to music on my comp.
i want the best sound quality i can listen to.

would kx serve me better than creatives drivers?

my pc currently runs a sblive 5.1

mmm CS or CS:S, if you switch to kX, you lose EAX support in CS, but as th source engine doens't support EAX that doesn't matter.

you'll get a boost in soundquality how ever with music and video

just regular CS not source. idk if i even turned on EAX. what does EAX do?

series of reverb units, designed to make the sound "real" as if it was in the location, ie echo's in a tunnel. HL has it's own simple version of that i think

If you mean 10-band EQ, yes, it does.

Just like I do, there are three OS in my computer, two windows XP and a Mandrake Linux 10.1. I use to play games & watch movies in one windows XP with offical driver, work & music in another with kx.

Source engine doasn't use EAX effects, it has it's own, great DSP and works good on kX. What about Half-Life engine, enable eax in game to have 3D sound, however You won't get any reverbs, but they are very poor in this game, so no lose generaly.

It's not worth it to keep original creative drivers for only one game (from my point of view not for all the games in the world). And by the way EAX effect in "classic" CS is very poor.

Install KX driver and you will see the difference!

thx guys should i wait for the final version in janurary?

yeah i only play games 10% of the time. and only game i play is counterstrike (not source) with my buddies, rarely solo and not into the clanning seen.
the rest is music and movies, anime.

You might lose the quality of EAX3 in games like Call of Duty where it works quite fine, but plain EAX... well, I can't remember a single map in CS which was actualy using those effects.
