noob looking for help
hello
after formatting and reinstalling windows twice thanks to random windows stop errors (0xc5 and 0xc2), I decided that the drivers for my audigy plat were to blame. After doing my research, i found the kX drivers and dide a fresh istall pf XP pro, followed by an installation of SP2, nVidia drivers, kX drivers, winamp 5, and mcafee. other than that my system is totally clean of any other drivers or programs.
the problem though, is that my sound isnt working. When i start windows, i get half of that trademark 'Yay!!! wondows is starting!!' music and then it just cuts out. I can't get audio to play in winamp or wmp, let alone any advanced features.
in an attempt to minimize the chances of this failure being rooted in my idiocy, i read the FAQ and the beginners guide and all that, and i can assure you fo the following:
-my sound card is plugged in and (was) functioning correctly.
-there are no creative drivers anywhere on this machine
-my speakers (2.1) are plugged in and volume is up
-volume level in the kX mixer and windows sounds thingy is at 100
-as per the beginners guide and default settings, the windows multimedia settings are on full hardware acceleration, highest possible sampling rate and 5.1 surround sound speaker output (my kX mixer is set to 2.0)
my hardware specs are:
athlon 1500+
msi kt400 333fsb mobo
wd 160/120 gb HDs
SB Audigy Platinum
Pioneer rw-9200
i/o magic idvdrw8d
verto nvidia geforce4 mx440
maybe theres something idiotic that i missed, or maybe its sp2... any ideas??
