Simple Question (hopefully)

Hi,
I recently got my Creative EMU10K1 soundcard working properly using the KX driver from the KX forum. Unfortunately I cannot now hear midi files, ie files like sound.mid It won't play (or I can't hear) midi files on my PC or from the Internet.
Would you please point me in the right direction to correct this. The card used to play midi files before I installed the driver.
Thanks a lot
Dave

System Specs

No worries. A soundfont is a package of samples of the instruments that a MIDI synth (in this case your soundcard) uses when playing a file. One such is needed to be loaded but there is none in the kX package. Chances are high that you have one in your Windows installation though, likely in "WINDOWS\system32\drivers". You can search for *.sf2 files by using the Windows file search. Then load it through the kX mixer interface. There are some higher quality soundfonts on some soundfont websites, but they tend to be pretty big.

Thanks mkk, I'm half a step nearer. I have no sf2 files on my PC unfortunately, they must be incorporated into the drivers which previously ran the soundcard. Hens teeth abound on the internet but sf2 files are rarer. I can load them due to your helpful pointing to the help file but I can't find one. Any ideas where one can be had, I've been looking for 2mbgmgs.sf2 soundfont which is mentioned a lot but not offered anywhere I can see yet.
Thanks

Well....
I downloaded a creative Vienna studio soundfont called voiperpn.sf2
This gave funny popping noises when I played midi's. However it worked fine when I changed the midi device to the MS table (or similar) Is this OK ?, at least I get sound out now.

Tons of free SFs here: http://www.hammersound.net/
The standard 'GM 2mb and 4mb Creative SF' is on your Creative CD.
Also, check the SoundFont section on this forum for more info.

1.Vienna is the standard SF editor to make/edit your own SF files.

2. No, the MS Synth is a 'Soft GM Synth' which doesn't use SoundFonts.
It sounds crap and taxes your cpu.

3. Get a decent GM SoundFont ( see; previous link/this forum/Google???? )
load it into kX, and your set.
