Sound Blaster Live Digital Output

Hi.

I'm sure this has been mentioned a billion times, but I really need some clarification before I mess up my amplifer. I am going to be using the coax digital connector to plug into a home theater receiver. I am using this digital cable because I am trying to cut down on the number of wires i have to plug in =)

I have an old style Soundblaster Live (MP3+) without the livedrive. KT drivers work fine, and pick it up as a CT4760. I have been warned that using this digital output is a 'bad idea' because it puts out a lot more than 5V+ and it's meant to power creative speakers.

I am not using this card to play dvds, or mess with dolby or anything. I can get audio out of it using regular 2 channel stuff and it works fine for what I want it to do.

BUT.

Is this safe? I saw this daughterboard that I want to know if I should buy to avoid having this card blow up my reciever.

The daughterboard

System Specs

the digital out port on the back of a card is standard S/PDIF level (±0.5V) afaik, so it should be safe - the daughterboard will also be safe
as for the actual AUD_EXT levels - they are TTL (0-5V)

So it could be a misprint, or the person who made the original postings referenced are just clueless? The receiver plays fine, but if it really was 12V or something wouldn't it not play at all?

S/PDIF never reaches 12V… not even TTL levels
