exclamation Beeps AND CUBASE "HELP"

Hi there everyone, I know I am probably sounding really silly or stupid but I am getting a little cheesed off with the kx because I just can't get my head around it.
I am trying to record audio into cubase sx using a soundblaster live 5.1 card(SB0222). I have done everything right but I am not getting any signal in cubase. Also what is cheesing me off is that every now and again (quite often) the sound through my speakers just for some magical reason just stops, and then whenever a sound should play all I hear is high pitched beeps, and after about ten minutes of this, the sound plays again for a little while and then it happens again.
Could someone please tell me if the card is ok and if there are any sites in which i can look at with the right info, or if anyone has the same setup how do u use it? why the high pitched beeps happen, why do I not hear any level in cubase? etc

thanks a lot
Dean

constant beeping noise instead of audio playback for the beeping, also with the recording, you may have to manually chenge the input selector for your channels to find the right asio inputs (ala SB0060/010x hardware bugs, see the kX Issues - Hardware Related about that issue

Would this card be better

Just wondering if a Sound blaster CT4870 would be better than the SB0222 that i am using, XP, 512 RAM, 2.7 AMD Athlon, on board sound is NVIDIA(disabled). Thanks Dean

both cards are the 10k1 chip, and both have 4 output availabe in kX channels if i am right… so there will be no real difference
