w98SE bootup sound plays but all other sound is "bitcrushed" and slow

I successfully installed and configured ASIO with the newest set of kX drivers on windows 98 SE. i am on an AMD Athlon 1.33 with 256 ram and an 10k *60 card.


I was using FL, and it crashed in such a way that the buffer kept repeating itself. When I rebooted, the windows sound played correctly and I thought I was in the clear. Well, it turns out that was not the case. I tried to load up winamp, and i got suuuuuuuuperslow audio. Additionally everything else in windows sounded funky and slow. . Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and this netted me nothing.
Is it safe to assume the card is physically fine since the bootup windows sound played correctly?

I am looking for non-format fixes to this problem.
