You lot will know this
When you use the default settings!
Hi,
I dont get no sound going through the WAVE output volume slider , is that because in the DEFAULT setting the WAVE output device isnt in the DSP router......let me explain....
When using the old creative drivers , if you played a wav file on the media player the sound would travel through the WAVE output volume slider then to the master.......yes.
Well is the reason why sound dont go through the WAVE volume slider when i play a file thru media player because it isnt routed on the DSP interface ?
It isnt routed on the default DSP interface either , is it ?

Most "wave" sound in Windows will go through kX's Wave 0/1 device (unless you change the default device to something else in the Sounds and Audio Devices menu). DirectSound3D uses Wave 4/5, 6/7, and 8/9 for front-left, front-right, rear-left, rear-right, center, and subwoofer respectively.
The Wave slider in the kX and Windows mixers controls the levels on all of these devices simultaneously.
I'm pretty sure that in the default DSP setup, the path is Wave 0/1 (FXBus 0/1) -> xrouting -> Surrounder -> Epilog.

In the master section of the kxmixer there is a volume slider called wave/pcm , that slider has not got any sound going through it , if i turn it up or turn it down it does not effect the volume at all , at the moment i have turned it off and down.
I just have the front and rear volume sliders turned up and the master volume turned up , how comes nothing is going thru the wave slider ?

Just done a search and it said somthing about the volume on the wave slider doesnt work proper on 98 , the thing is no sound at all travels through mine.
It used to go like this with creative drivers:
media player>wave volume slider>master volume slider
It goes like this with kx:
media player>rear volume slider>master volume slider
wave slider dont do nothing no sound travels thru it , sound is going straight from the rear to the master without going through the wave volume slider?

Ok i just selected 8/9 in multimedia props , and now it travels through wav/pcm slider.
Why is this ?
And i use my black jack as main out , but do i use the rear volume slider or the front volume slider?
Not sure what 1 to swap it to , they sound pretty much the same to me.

Its ok i know the answers to this now.
1 of the answers is because of a bug in 98.
1 of the answers is front volume slider.

8/9 is supposed to be center and subwoofer, not front (?). Maybe your speakers are connected to the wrong outputs on your card? The front speakers should be connected to the rear out, the rear speakers to the front out, and center/subwoofer to the center/subwoofer out (if you have 2.1, 4.1, or 5.1 speakers). You can right-click the kX icon in your system tray and select speaker test to open a little test utility to help you figure out if your speakers are connected correctly. Make sure you unmute and turn up all outputs though because it uses Wave 4/5, 6/7, and 8/9 which are affected by the Wave slider, Master slider, and the top row of sliders on Ins 'n' Outs.

as it was already mentioned, in Windows 98SE only =one= audio device (usually, 'Wave 8/9') is controllable via 'Wave PCM' slider... this seems to be a bug either in the driver topology implementation or a bug in Win98SE kernel-level audio driver (seems to be a m$ bug since the slider works fine in 2k, xp and later OSes -- haven't tested it under WinMe)
you may need to re-assign 'Wave 8/9' to 'FXBus 0/1' for better compatibility / performance (in the kX Router)
